Hi, Today, I'm going to show you my Rickenbacker 12 String guitar.
It's a 340/12. Basically a 330/12 model with an extra pickup in the middle position.
I use flatwound strings on it, like many people do.
Because it's more comfortable to play, And especially to avoid fret buzz :
As there is a lot of tension on the strings, you have to lower the action to make it comfortable to play.
And this can bring a lot a "buzz" with standard roundwound strings.
So, flatwound strings resolve a part of the problem.
I always play 12 string electric through a compressor, before going to the amp.
Just like Roger Mc Guinn used to do.
With a compressor, the sound gets much more precise, and high strings can be heard better.
It decreases the dynamic range.
I don't have a compression pedal today, so i'm plugged in to a Distressor.
It does the job very well !
Now i'm going to play you a few licks.
And of course you can do that... :
It works very well in the higher range too. It sounds a bit like an electric mandolin.
"I think I'm gonna be sad.. I think it's todaaaayyyyy yeeahh !"
Voilà ! That was the Rickenbacker 12 string electric guitar.
See you !
