What the Emerald Ash Borer does it attacks the tree
causing the tree to start to decline in health.
And what you'll see for signs and symptoms,
the first thing is you'll see
that the upper branches start to die on the ash tree.
And then as the tree continues to be stressed
and starts to die you'll see sprouting.
And here, like on this tree,
you see sprouts coming out from the lower trunk.
And that's the kind of thing that you will see with Emerald Ash Borer.
Another thing you might see are splits in the bark.
You might see increased activity from woodpeckers.
But the key thing to look for for Emerald Ash Borer
is that when the beetle emerges from the tree
it leaves a D-shaped hole in the bark.
It's about a 1/8 inch across D-shaped hole
and that's very distinctive.
Also when you find splits in the bark,
if you look under there and you'll see larval tunnels,
if you look under there and you will see larval tunnels,
you'll see these S-shaped tunnels going back and forth,
that's an indication it's Emerald Ash Borer.
