Hi my name is Sarah and on behalf of expertvillage.com I am here at Petland in Pembroke Pines, Florida
to educate you a little bit today about caring for your ferret. As far as feeding your ferret
goes, you should feed your ferret a high quality ferret diet. Dog and cat foods are not acceptable
diets for your ferret. Canned foods do not provide the proper nutrition for a ferret.
Kitten food is acceptable but you generally should feed a high quality ferret diet as
there are plenty of them out there on the market. Your ferret should have fresh food
and water available at all times. It is okay to free-feed a ferret because they have very
high metabolisms and burn any calories that they are eating throughout the day. If your
ferret becomes obese, it is a good idea to contact your veterinarian as this could be
a sign of disease. As far as food and water bowls go, you should use heavy bowls as ferrets
will tip over regular bowls. You want to use heavy ceramic crocks for their water or you
may choose to use a water bottle. Any bottle water bottled used should be cleaned several
times a week with hot soapy water. Food bowls should be heavy also and they should be cleaned
daily just like the water bowls. You can get several sets of food and water bowls and run
them through the dishwasher every day or every other day or you can wash them by hand every
day. As far as treats goes, there are a variety of ferret treats on the market. You generally
want to stay away from treats that are very high in sugar as these can cause digestive
upset with your ferret. If you would like any more information about the animal hospital
