we've taken an extended break from covering the goings on a for-profit
colleges onto it to you but we've got a little update for you it's actually
pretty interesting and it's bad news for once for a for-profit colleges and
universities yeah dialogue left the university of phoenix is closing one
hundred and fifteen locations abu dhabi only effects thirteen thousand students
which by my math is not a lot of students per location and done is really
good at math
really good yeah i was universe if it's actually saw sonoma mera
um... so they're closing twenty five of their main campus is an nine ee of their
smaller satellite sensors at least one location in thirty states is being
closed now this is only four person only four percent of the people go to
university thinks ought to be affected by this but it's a lot of actual
locations and there's some pretty important reasons for why they're doing
this so
uh... they have three hundred twenty thousand students currently enrolled
uh... at the university next
data from the peak of four hundred thousand pretty big drop-off
fewer people are applying each year
uh... and as you can imagine they're making significantly less money they had
an earnings a particular recently
anderson praise dropped nine percent
in the wake of the so i don't know if this is the beginning of a larger trend
um... and the past two years haven't been all that good for them although
they're still the revenue went up from one point one two billion the nine
hundred ninety six five million for the same time and a little sympathy travel
insider really making almost a billion dollars instead of a little more than a
billion dollars in the best thing to go to the providing hundreds of dollars
worth of service to the country
noted that that's so *** is this the beginning of the and for the murders in
the building blocks that can help sell just kidding but the fact that the only
affecting thirteen thousand students
and i don't think that means i guess most of them were entirely online maybe
they then i think i think that's one of the trends here is the students are
increasingly favoring online courses and the two v
it university of phoenix is credit
they do say it back
there at the students who are currently acting as universities that are at the
centers that are getting close
will have the option of either transfer into an online program or moving their
coursework to other sites and if no other centers here by the company will
continue courses at another space intelligence complete their degree so
that that is nice or not really the students that are currently enrolled
just totally s_l_ ali are gonna be able if it's a degree either online or in
person which is good but
if you've been keeping up with u_s_ university you know we did it we do a
lot of some fun for-profit colleges and that we did a story a
a few weeks back why not a month personnel ago the president of these
for-profit colleges are making like thirteen at two fourteen million dollars
a year which is more than the highest paid public universities and even
private universities
in the united states like i think they were saying the president yelling makes
a million to still a ton of money
but that's all
compared to thirteen or fourteen million and so i just have little sympathy
because
i'd doubt any of those president stockroom maybe i should take and pay
pat
instead of of closing our schools all across the nation and taking you know
educationally from
thirteen and found thousand students like
okay and he said i think that your your revenues are dropping but
barely and comparison delegate and don't be paying yourself thirteen million
dollars
if these
for-profit colleges do in the closing down i don't necessarily think it would
be a terrible thing because we've talked a lot about how you know there are cases
uh... wary you u
if you have a very specific idea in mind you know what you're getting into
isn't necessarily a bad thing you might be able to benefit from for-profit
kaunas but for the most part you really better off going to a community college
or something else like that because you're you're paying these high class
like a lot of there's a lot really high dropout rate with for-profit colleges
not a lot of
please work placement afterwards are getting a degree that's not as valuable
as another degree i would be from either community college or
four year university so
maybe it's not necessarily a bad day if these colleges do kind of and often
