Hi, I'm Laurel, Laurel's Originals, and I'm going talk to you today about a project that
we just completed and a custom canvas rug that we completed for a home here in Costa
Rica. We received a photo from the design company, Casa del Pacifico. And in this photo
we could see there was a palm border, and in the center, it was a natural fiber rug.
I asked the designer what did you want me to put in the center of this rug, and she
asked was there any way that I could replicate this natural fiber look. Many of the designers
here in Costa Rica like to use natural fiber rugs, but when you're in a country that rains
6 months out of the year and you're dealing with dust for 6 months, mud for the other
6 months, and mold, and add to that going to the beach and having a beach home with
lots of sand, then the natural fiber rug's a very difficult to take care of. What we
do is we paint jute and we actually use it as a stamp, and in natural colors and tones,
and it really creates a beautiful look.
Here I am painting the rug. I did go and visit this home, it was on the southern coast of
pacific coast of Costa Rica, I enjoy surfing, so for me it was a great way to get to know
the designer install the rug myself, catch a few waves, visit some friends, and so she
writes after her client came, “I wanted to let you know the clients loved the rug.
They were so pleased with the results of the project and especially the rug. I wanted to
thank you again for your efforts to create such a wonderful piece to blend with the layout
and colors as well as for delivering it for us. I really appreciate it. I look forward
to the next ones.” And I look forward to it too. So for more videos on how to’s and
