Mr. Cedar here from a new home construction project where we're installing Real Cedar siding
overtime Tyvek Drain Wrap. In this particular case were installing one by four
tongue and groove. It has a fine line detail at the edge.
Other patterns are available with different edge details. The advantage of
the narrow profile of tongue and groove pattern
is you can blind nail it in most climatic conditions.
You can do this with both one by four and one by six.
Other tongue and groove patterns that are wider like one by eight, one by ten, or one by twelve
must be faced nailed using two nails. Other cedar siding patterns
like bevel, channel, board and bat and shiplap
all must be face nailed. Bevel siding requires one nail
per stud at every stud. Shiplap patterns require one nail on patterns one by six and narrower.
Two nails on one by eight and wider. Similarly, with board and bat,
board and batten patterns using one by six boards you would use one nail
on the board and one nail on the bat for using one by eight and wider boards
you need to use two nails in the board and one nail in the bat.
