The food festival and cultural festival is meaningful to the community and has been for
a number of years. I think people appreciate coming for the entertainment and for the connection
it allowed them to have with other cultures – other people. And I think the tragedy
that occurred in Japan this year and other trouble spots in the world are in some ways
making us more aware that there’s a connection that needs to be there from a global standpoint.
And so for those who want to be involved and can afford it, I would encourage them to support
giving some funds, some support, to the people of Japan. And we’ve dedicated this year’s
festival to the people of Japan but that includes our faculty, staff, students and alumni who
are here at the University . So, as much as possible, I would encourage giving to help
people deal in a more resilient way with what has occurred.
