XAMPP Setup for WordPress
So as a participant in our online WordPress workshop, you should have recieved a USB drive
of supporting resources.
This includes XAMPP - a portable server that lets you run WordPress directly from the USB
or a local drive.
However, before you can use XAMPP, we need you to do a little bit of setup.
You might also want to refer to the step-by-step guide we sent you to help with this.
So, on your USB drive you'll find an XAMPP folder
Inside this is a batch file called "setup-xampp." This is what we need you to run.
So, on opening this file, XAMPP will prompt you to "relocate" the XAMPP paths.
Press Y and then Return
Next, you're asked if you want to make a "portable" installation without drive letters.
Again, Press Y and then Return
XAMPP will now do the relocation required and confirm when setup is complete.
We can now start the XAMPP Control Panel by selecting option 1
From here, we can start the servers needed to run WordPress - namely Apache and MySQL.
So, we simply click Start for each of these and after a moment they will show as green
and running.
And that's it - XAMPP is now setup.
You can confrim this by loading the XAMPP admin page in a browser.
You're now ready to install WordPress, but we'll cover that on the workshop.
