I'm Christine Brown. I have had a central unit support role at the University of Wollongong
for a number of years and I've come along today with a different hat, with an applicant
hat, so very exciting.
I came with an idea based on what expertise I believe I had demonstrated
over a substantial period of time, as the kernel of an idea and I think what came out
very clearly for me this morning was it's so much about your engagement with other colleagues,
you're a catalyst, a spark but it's all about the involvement of other people and a capacity
to be flexible and responsive. So there's a really interesting tension here between
this is case I'm putting into an application but I'm totally prepared to go with the flow.
What has been helpful about today has been hearing other fellows at different stages
of the process, hearing the diversity of responses, being able to step a little bit into their
shoes, they've been very generous and honest about how much their plan evolved and emerged.
Stepping forward from today it's so much about get moving with that engagement, get talking
to people tonight, tomorrow, straight away and to have the confidence that if you feel
that the work is valuable for a fellowship just get in and make a start and you're on
the right track. And I think from our workshop what came out very strongly was when you have
a really good idea that resonates with the sector and you put that idea out there opportunities
occur, open up to you because you've planted that seed, so already in conversations today
there's a number of other institutions that I know I could go and say knock, knock, knock,
can we discuss this further.
That's fantastic.
