Hello everyone it’s Ben from Printerbase and this is the DCP-J4120DW from Brother.
The printer comes boxed up really well, as you’d expect from Brother, and everything
together weighs in at around 10kg, so it’s fairly easy to carry, and shouldn’t be a
problem if your setting it up yourself.
Something we commonly get asked here at Printerbase is “where is the serial number?” and the
vast majority of the time, this will be somewhere on the box, as well as on the device.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll keep the box anyway, but if you don’t, take a
note of that serial number, because you’ll need it to register your product, and it’ll
save you looking for a little sticker inside the printer.
In the box with the device you get a power cable, drivers and software for Mac and PC,
a quick setup guide and finally, your ink cartridges.
These cartridges are “starter” ink cartridges and don’t hold the same amount of ink that
a standard cartridge does.
The estimated yield for these starter cartridges is around 360 pages, which is enough to get
you started, but if you’re gonna be printing frequently, you’ll be buying replacement
cartridges pretty soon.
The LC-223s are the standard yield cartridges and these will offer up to around 550 pages,
which will most likely be good enough for the standard home user.
However, if you’re using this device in an office, you’ll most likely be better
off with the LC-227 and 225XL cartridges.
These offer up to 1,200 pages each, meaning not only will they last longer, but your printing
ends up being much cheaper, in most cases, costing less than 2p per page, for a standard
mono document.
The ink cartridges for this machine are kept behind a little panel here on the right hand
side of the device, and they’re very easy to replace.
Simply open the panel, press down on the lever, pull out the cartridge, and when you replace
it, it just slides in, and clicks into place.
Finally, when your unpacking the printer make sure you follow the guide provided and be
sure to remove ALL of the packaging inside and out…
Other wise you could damage your printer before you’ve even used it.
