The African-Americans in the south saw themselves as having a better quality of life and that
was a surprise considering the history and the destruction of context of many of these
southern locations that they live in. But this is also consistent with what the census
has reported. The African-Americans throughout the country are moving back to the south as
a result of the climb of many of these...many urban sectors, as a result of many of them
still feeling a connectedness to the south, as a result of in fact their mothers, fathers,
relatives were from the south originally and so they were raised with traditional southern
values and so they want to reconnect with this lifestyle. And also because of the south
in many, many locations there are also better economic opportunities for them and many of
their children are attending universities in the south. Many of the historical black
colleges are largely located within the south and so many of them have had some type of
southern experience and are attempting to relocate back to the south.
