Black Friday? No, but KDWP has its own version of a holiday bargain that’s too good to
pass up, if you’ve got a young hunter or fisher on your gift list. Starting Wednesday,
December 15, new youth multi-year resident hunting and fishing licenses are offered for
the first time. These licenses, good as a one-time purchase until a resident youngster
reaches age 21, can amount to triple digit savings on a combination hunting/fishing license
when bought at earliest opportunity for youths age 16. And the multi-year licenses are also
more convenient than purchasing each season.
Karen Beard, chief of licensing for Kansas Wildlife and Parks, explains how the new licenses
work:
“Most of our youth like to hunt and fish both. If they buy the annual combo license
now, it costs $38.50 a year. If they buy the new multi-year license at $72.50, that’s
about a $150 savings for the next six years. The license is valid when they turn 16, and
it expires on December 31st of the year they turn 21. So that’s about six years worth
of hunting and fishing, for one price.”
All 2011 KDWP licenses and permits go on sale December 15 and are valid for the rest of
2010 and all of 2011. That’s also a good deal – providing parts of two seasons for
the price of one. All resident hunters and anglers age 16-64 must have annual licenses
to hunt and fish. Multi-year youth licenses now join annual and lifetime licenses as purchase
choices for Kansans.
