Did you know there's more than one way to make a claim for people who've been diagnosed
with mesothelioma? I'm Will Allen, an attorney with Fleming, Nolen & Jez in Houston, Texas.
And this question comes up quite frequently with our clients. There are cases which are
pursued through the courts in what we call litigation, that's the first level. There
are also claims that can be pursued through the trust fund system which has been set up
to compensate victims of mesothelioma. And third, most of our clients find that there's
a combination of the two with litigation or lawsuit being filed and also second claims
being filed through the trust fund system. Now, litigation means filing a lawsuit and
all that entails. Sometimes these lawsuits can last some period of time. However over
the course of that lawsuit some claims are being settled as the case goes on, so it's
not all done at the end. The second area -- the trust claims -- involves bankrupt companies
who are responsible parties - companies that made, manufactured, sold, supplied, delivered
asbestos in places that resulted in your exposure and your resulting mesothelioma. These companies
have sought protection through the bankruptcy system and as a result have had to set up
a fund to pay victims such as yourself. Why do you need to know this? Because we have
this question asked every day. We're here to guide you. If you have a question, feel
free to give us a call. I'm Will Allen with Fleming, Nolen & Jez. Thank you for watching,
thank you for your time today.
