Today is my first time voting, ever,
so that's pretty exciting. It's pretty cool to do that for the first time.
I've been helping with the election,
I'm an election inspector today.
And I've been giving out stickers after
people submit their ballot,
and I've been tearing pieces of paper off, I've been actually tearing off the ballots to give
to people who are voting today.
The main deliverable with this program, the Monroe County Election Fellows program,
is to recruit and train 150 students
from three different institutions
to work as election inspectors at various polling sites
around Monroe County on election day, the general election.
I'm really proud to say that every single one of the students we recruited showed up,
this morning at 4:15 in the morning, which is definitely
an accomplishment for college students, it's certainly the first time
I've set my alarm that early since high school, so I was proud to see everyone there,
and we got everyone to the polling place on time as well. So
we were there when we needed to be.
Some of the (?) A lot of people tried to get to a lot of different places,
and I have a newfound respect for the logistics of the
Board of Elections who has to do this for
3,000 people throughout the county.
I'm really looking forward to actually working with some of the other
poll workers. I know a lot of them have been coming
back for 10, 15 years.
They might be the older generation.
And I think it will be really fun to share stories with them.
Well all the students did a great job,
they obviously paid attention in the training classes, they've done very well.
The more people we can have involved in politics at every level,
it will benefit us as a country.
As things have gone over several decades,
we've had fewer and fewer people involved in politics,
and then we've got fewer and fewer people making those decisions
and having that influence.
By all means, bringing younger people in so that they can
carry the torch, for the next generation,
I think that's so important.
I walked in with a few students to their polling sites to get them set up,
and other inspectors
that are not part of our program were real excited to see them as well.
Now we've been doing visits throughout the afternoon
had some really really good experiences with all the inspectors.
It was really positive feedback to having the students there..
