Hello everyone, This is Jim Parrish. I'm a personal injury accident lawyer in Virginia.
A common question I receive is: “what if someone hits me in my car who doesn't have
insurance and my car is damaged and I'm injured”. In that case you'll make a claim back against
your own policy under what's know as the uninsured motorist provision of your policy. Whenever
I explain that to people, the next question is inevitably “won't that make my insurance
rates go up?” Typically now your insurance rates will not go up if you're involved in
an accident that you did not cause. I hope that information is helpful.
