MIKE GIANCOLA: This event is the first time we've added a blood drive to Service NC State,
so in addition to our partnership with Stop Hunger Now and packaging 400,000 meals that
will go to Haiti, today our goal is to collect 500 units of blood with the American Red Cross.
STEVEN LOUDERMILK: Ever since I started going to college, I always thought giving blood
is such a simple, easy way to give to my community. It just takes maybe a couple hours of sitting
back and helping save lives, and I thought there's really no excuse not to do it.
CHRISTINE AROCENA: Service is helping others, it benefits yourself, it's not getting paid.
It's for helping your community and making a difference.
GIANCOLA: I'm really of the belief that if we set our mind to something, there's nothing
we can't accomplish by working together. We've had the Teaching Fellows helping out, Student
Government, Campus Recreation, Carmichael Facilities, CSLEPS and a whole variety of
units coming together. It's wonderful. We've been planning this for months and we knew
that if we set a bold goal, the NC State community would come together and we would do it. I
have a lot of faith in this community - when the Wolfpack sets its mind to something, there's
nothing we can't do, and today is testament of that.
