-I think that we got Armel Le Cleac'h, skipper of Banque Populaire who is online with us, Armel, do you copy us, do yo hear us correctly ?
-Yes hello, I hear you very well.
-The miracle of technology, ladies and gentlemen, Armel Le Cleac'h, second of the global ranking at last ranking earlier, who is in visio with us, you can see
from the other side of the planet, how is this going, you are still a little bit slowed down ?
-No, now it's going again, we passed on the other side of the ...
high, so no we are upwind no since a little time, it's sailing tilt, and ..
and this is going to last for a little bit, so it's going again, effectively, we passed just next to the ...
the high, which is going in the East, and now we touched the wind from the western side.
-And I assume that in your head it cogitates for the strategy to use ?
-Yes yes, for sure this part of the Atlantic, between cape Horn and .. and Brazil, around Salvador da Bahia it's ...
it's not the simplest at a strategic level on the course.
it's changing a lot, the weather files each days, and the situation is rather complex, we got some ...
little lows in preparation, high setting in place, it's moving quite a lot, and so ...
indeed we got to find the best route to meet the trade winds a Brazil level, and it's not easy !
-And you are happy or not, of your actual position ?
-Ah, me I'm always happy of my position ! ha ha !
it's what I've chosen ! Listen, we'll see what it will look like in a few time, but now ...
I'm doing my route, I don't really take care of what François does, or behind Jean Pierre who is coming back, anyway we don't got the same weather behind, so listen we ...
we try to find the best possible route until Brazil, as I was saying, so listen, for now it's going forward, that good !
we'll make counts in a week approximatively, but listen, for now it's moving forward, degrees are going up slowly
it's not already it, the night it's still rather cold, and we feel that we get closer to a little bit warmer.
and now, it's going to sail tilted, and upwind, so it's a little bit the difference from what we lived since a month !
-Camille El Beze
-Yes Armel, your position stagger to the west, you have chosen it or has it been dictated by the weather condition you had on the moment, first question.
and the second, if it's you who has chosen it, can you explain it, what's your tactic now ?
-So, at at tactic level, this position, yes I've chosen it, in a big part, if I had wanted to be more to the East, I could have done it.
perhaps not as much as François, but yes more to the East for sure, so yes, it's me who has chosen it. So why ...
Cause ... cause I think that ... I as was saying, I think that the situation is complex, and I didn't wanted to position myself on a side or another.
by being block at a strategic level. By being a little bit more on the center of the race course, it leaves me more choices.
that's it, now we'll see, that's not simples, as I said, the weather is moving a lot, 3-4 days ago, it was the big rounding by the East, now it's not the case anymore
that's it, so listen, we'll see, there's little lows coming, which created quickly
that the files don't really see everyday. Don't necessarily see yesterday or the day before, so it's changing the deal, so listen, we'll see
but for sure there's options to take and things to do on the water
-Since the beginning of the Vendee Globe, your tendency is to take shorter route, with flat trajectories, is this Armel Le Cleac'h trademark ?
-Hahaha this is your analysis ! hahaha Me, I'm doing my route, I'm trying to find the best way possible, what seems to me the best.
after, if it looks like flat trajectories, that's good, if that's what you see on the water ...
listen, me I'm trying to sail with the wind I got, and the forecast I got, listen for now I ...
it's going rather not badly, for sure there's little options to take, that's sure that I've a tendency to play a little bit closer to high pressure centers.
now, well this is ... it's going rather well for now, we'll see !
-Armel, Olivia Maincent wants to say a little word to you.
-Yes Armel, that's a surprise, today we didn't thought we would see you bearded, you change you mind ?
-Hahaha !
-No I didn't changed my mind, but I can tell you that conditions, since we passed cape Horn, that's not holidays !
We had a low, finally rather hollow, downwind, in a raging sea. I think that's it's the most difficult sea we had since the start.
so last 36 hours haven't been really funny, downwind, in the sea, it has been a little bit nonsense, with gust up to 43-44 knots
so there was what to do, sail changing, stacking, gybes, to cut a long story short ...
I pass on some, and so I had better things to do than shaving !
and, the same, today, with the little bubble this night, there's a lot of sail change to do, move the material ...
go to ... trim the sail, etc, and so after a time you say to yourself "Well, I should go sleep a little bit", and those times there's not a lot !
so we forgot a little bit to shave so, that's not a big deal, we still got some time since Les Sables d'Olonnes, don't worry, I won't arrive with the big beard at Les Sables d'Olonnes
-It fits you very well, keep the beard, the three girls prefers you like this, that's great !
-Last thing Armel, it's your second Vendee Globe, how do you feel in this race, do you like singlehanded sailing ?
-Ha ha ha !
Yes yes yes, of course yes, evidently I like singlehanded sailing, now it's sure it's my second Vendee, so we don't necessarily live the same things, four years ago ...
it was a little different ambiance, I was a little bit isolated on this part of the race track, on the climb back up of the Atlantic
here it's different, there is a nice fight, that's what we came for,so good. I hope this is going to be fun all the way to Les Sables d'Olonnes
It's sure that each Vendee is different, great if for now we passed round the obstacles, and we have been able to do this part of the track until here, that's a success for now with Banque Populaire
there are other who unfortunately haven't been able to come all the way until here. We got to appreciate this chance, and we'll see for the rest, but listen, for now ...
it has been rather fast, and listen, it's good cause we're getting closer to home
we hope being at Les Sables d'Olonnes before the end of the month
-Thank you, we are going to leave you sailing, Armel Le Cleac'h, second of the last ranking, and there it goes !
there is a lot of people at the HQ today and lot of applause to salute your performance !
-Thank you !
-I hear it !
-Thank you, it's nice, listen, good day to every body, and see you very soon !
-Re-applause, hop la, let's go !
