"Our beef tenderloin with bruschetta." The Pure Inspiration Art Exhibit and Food
and Wine Event financially supports the many programs we provide children and families.
But, the real gift of the event is that it allows us to witness the power and possibility
of our children, and to share that with the community at large.
Here at Boys Town National Research Hospital's Center for Childhood Deafness we have provided
services for children who are deaf and hard of hearing for over 30 years.
In this center, we provide a wide range of services including sophisticated cochlear
implant surgery and follow-up listening sessions, consultative services to educational settings,
home intervention sessions for families of newly identified children with hearing loss,
preschool programming, and counseling services. Our goal is to provide the world of opportunities
to children who are deaf and hard of hearing. My son Austin does have bilateral cochlear
implants. We have had hundreds of experiences at Boys Town from when we originally
came and had Austin's hearing tested all the way to getting his cochlear implants here,
going to preschool here. It's been an amazing experience, and the people at Boys Town have
changed our lives. "Squeeze!"
Art gives children - especially children who are deaf or hard of hearing -- another vehicle
for communication and expression. Every day in the art room, we witness through
our children their deeper insight and attention to the world around them.
This purity and intelligence they hold within becomes visible through their art.
I don't know exactly how they do it, but they mix colors with the snow, and then as it melts,
it becomes art. And it is cool. And the self-confidence and self-worth that it gives them is an amazing
thing. This place, for the positive, has changed
my son's life, and it's changed our family's life. If you, as an individual or as an organization,
want to invest back into the lives of kids, that will change their lives for the better,
the Boys Town National Research Hospital's Center for Childhood Deafness is something
you should consider because the return you will get on that is priceless.
