A 63-year-old Los Angeles woman died on her way to the hospital Thursday. Police are crediting
her death to an unusual attack by a pack of pit bull terriers.
The unidentified woman was reportedly on a walk around 9:30 a.m. when as many as four
dogs attacked her. A woman driving by saw the attack and called 911. A lieutenant told
KCAL when officers arrived, one of the dogs was still attacking the woman — then turned
to a deputy. (via BBC)
"He tried to chase the dog away. The dog ran off into the desert, then turned around and
attacked the deputy, the deputy fired a round at the dog and tried to kill the dog, and
the dog took off into the desert."
After an all-day ground and air search, investigators arrested a man not far from where the search
started.
Police arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly growing marijuana. Information from animal
control and people in the area also helped match the dogs at the house with the description
of the ones involved in the attack. (via KNBC)
"Authorities say the man they arrested was growing marijuana on his property where he
also kept a number of pit bulls and mixed-breed dogs."

Homicide detectives reportedly joined the investigation. If the man's dogs are linked
to the killing, investigators say he could face tougher charges.
