The overall goal of this project is to give skateboarding in India a little push.
There are people that skate and they are really motivated to skate, but there is just
no possibilities to skate here.
You can skate in the streets, but it’s not that easy to skate in the streets in India.
So as we found out there's just one skatepark in whole India
and it’s not even open to the whole public.
You have to pay for it in order to get in.
That was the moment to get this thing going and build a skatepark together with them.
To come out here to India and contribute to skateboarding, it’s a labor of love.
Skateboarding in India is so new, so it’s like
you see the kids out here and they’re like the in ‘80s, you know.
They’re doing tricks they don't even know the names of.
They're making up their own tricks.
That's like when we started skating, you know.
We didn't know what we were doing, we were just going for it.
And to be here at the center of something like that is very rewarding.
It’s a selfless thing. It’s not like aw man I was there I did that, you know. It’s more like
you can just look back with a big smile on your face.
It’s like
that *** tight, you know? like, stoked for it.
Because there's gonna be rippers that come out of here.
there’s gonna be dudes that are
enjoying their lives, amongst all this other stuff.
I don't know why, once you start skating -- it was like a great escape for me.
I used to have these 14 hour days like at work, which started really early, and stuff.
I was sitting in front of the computer the whole day
and you just feel like you have no purpose in life anymore, you’re just going to work.
You're just living for the weekend, and what's the point?
You see everybody going to work
and you see it on their faces that they don't really want to do what they’re doing
but you just have to do it.
it’s the giant rat race, you know.
so when they finally see people doing things because they want to do it
and not for some hidden agenda or any other purpose, they find it quite hard to believe, you know.
This is what I want to do with my life.
I want to skate and I want all people to skate just because of that.
In my head I feel if I get more kids into skateboarding,
you know you feel like you've done something which is bigger than yourself.
Robin and me, we met Shake and Soms last year, when we were traveling in India.
Coming here, we were speeding up the process for HolyStoked
cause now they see all the steps that have to be taken in order to build a park.
People who are motivated to build and to skate what they build are coming together
in order to create something, something new.
And now we are people from all over the world.
We are gonna create an amazing spot for Indian skaters.
I don't mind doing the work to give to skateboarding
because skateboarding gave me such an amazing life and great experiences, friendships.
To be able to give that gift to someone else stokes me out, you know.
it gives me energy to be able to do that.
There's always gonna be DIY.
that's just the nature of skateboarding, you know? There's always gonna be DIY.
that's just the nature of skateboarding, you know?
I think that DIY is the new skateboard *** clubhouse
of like this is our crew, this is what we wanna ride, this is what we wanna do.
it takes work, it takes dedication, it takes going to the hardware store
getting the tools and a bag of concrete and get the car and get the water
and finding the spot, I mean
It’s punk rock man.
That's good man.
Alright gangster
I ain’t strong.
Coming through I ain’t strong.
Coming through
Things are so different here, they way they work and the way they are
and that you can just go and build something like this in two or three weeks.
You got skatepark, you got skateboarding there all of the sudden.
These kids probably need skateboarding more than most of us
if they can come and have a good time.
We love it and we've done it, you know.
We're lucky in the west, you know, we have skate parks everywhere.
They've never even seen it before, but every kid that sees it thinks its the best thing ever so why wouldn't you?
I think everything here is, it’s insanity, to see how people live.
I'm definitely going home with a new attitude.
I mean it kinda dawned on me when I got here that
I didn't really know what I was doing.
Maybe it is my dumb work and shoveling stuff is like
this might create something new
and might provide something for people, that might be the most raddest thing ever.
Skateboarding in India, you know.
You know the whole project is about building ***, and I want to build.
It’s actually the same fun as skating somehow.
You just build something that you wanna skate and
like after awhile you kind of get a liking not only for skating part of it
but for the building process as well, so yeah.
You're getting better at it and its sort of like skateboarding.
Once you know how the concretes reacting and how you should treat it, you're picking up really fast
and its a lot of fun to just create whatever you're thinking.
And the ground in *** “marble” too, on the inside.
I’ll just *** open it!
I just opened it
You did that? I just opened it
You did that?
I did that! You did that?
I did that!
I mean these guys and their crew, they will keep the ball rolling.
They learn how to do it, they spread the word, they help other people
and help that the scene in India grows.
Fourteen days ago the container got delivered.
Fourteen days later you’ll get all this ***.
It’s very important to have a free skatepark.
People who really want to skate can't afford paying for it.
They can't afford it because they aren't earning it
and if they are supposed to earn it,
then they won’t have time to play.
That's how the circle works here.
So when you have a free park to skate people somehow make their time to come there.
And a lot of local kids who can't play any other sport because they don't have access to it.
Ah it’s been awesome with the crew.
It’s amazing.
It’s super fast and super smooth with tons of lines.
Probably better than most skateparks in the UK.
And skates so well.
Its amazing just to make it possible that
something that has been started just goes on and
yeah I would be hyped if there's like a DIY thing in every big city
just like let that thing grow all over the world.
like you create something that's lasting.
Why not have the scene in India be focused on building *** yourself.
This is a way of satisfying the kids as well, you know.
Why not that?
Let’s just see where India goes from here on.
Punk rock
We gotta get a band going.
You're gonna play drums, you're gonna play base, you're gonna play guitar.
You're gonna have to grow your hair out, you're gonna have to get a mohawk and we're gonna shave your head bald.
We're gonna be a sensation out here.
So the goal I guess in the end is just that to get more kids getting into this
and like joining the bigger community you know and
to have like 30, 40 kids skateboarding in Bangalore and get the scene going, you know?
I mean I see the kids here, you see them, you give them a skateboard
within three minutes you've created smiles everywhere and that's something special.
makes everyone else feel like they can do it too.
And how beautiful is that?
It’s just, just I mean, it’s shocking.
This is just the beginning and it’s just begun.
This is never going to end.
There is no end to it.
Stoked man, that ***'s sick.
You know I’d love to work and just talk about art and skateboarding.
If you don’t look at me, we got no problem.
I’m voting out Arnold right now.
Sorry Arnold.
Keep moving.
We’ll skate to my house.
That's right.
Future of Indian skating right here. It’s going to be tight.
