(VO - Ben) Heading into the next sixth day of our trip across the country. We arrive at our next stop. Albuquerque.
(theme music continues)
(VO - Ben) It was nearly a week since we left Connecticut. We had traveled over 2000 miles.
I was starting to feel the effects of being on the road.
(Ben) Wednesday morning. October 23rd?
10:00... no. 10:30 our time. East coast time that is.
8:30 Arizona time. New Mexico time.
I don't know what I'm saying. (Fazio) That's awesome.
(typing on keyboard) (Ben) Things to do in Albuquerque.
Number one... leave. Number two...
don't arrive here.
Whatelse? Whatelse? Nothing.
I got... it's a lot of just... a lot of museums.
(VO - Ben) As we were getting ready to leave the hotel, we were reminded of what Albuquerque is really know for.
(Fazio) The two people that I talked to that I told I was in Albuquerque... They were like, you should get the "blue".
And when the first one said it. I didn't really put two and two together.
But then my second one said it too. And the "blue" is the
ah, the *** that they made for this area.
(Ben) The "blue" what? (Fazio) Blue is the ***. (Ben) Oh.
(music starts) (VO - Ben) Breaking Bad. The hit TV show about a high school chemistry teacher
who produces and sells crystal ***. A topic even the local candy store was
cashing in on. (Store employee) Do you want to get some of the dime bags? (Fazio) Can I just get one?
(Ben) What are you getting? (Fazio) That's too much. (Ben) What is it?
(Fazio) Dime bag... of crystal.
(Fazio) It's a dime bag of the crystal. A little blue crystal.
(VO - Ben) But then again this wasn't your average candy store.
(sexy saxophone music)
(sexy saxophone music resolves)
(Fazio) So we're walking around Albuquerque. Mostly just... souvenir stuff like we've
see in pretty much every other city that we've been too.
But there's a Breaking Bad theme going on here, so it's kinda cool that each of the places that we have
have something going on with, um, Breaking Bad.
And then we're going to check out the, um, the car wash.
(music starts)
(VO - Ben) One of the main locations in Breaking Bad is a place called A1A Car Wash.
Which in reality is the Octopus Car Wash located on the
east side of Albuquerque. And we weren't the only ones visiting that day.
(Ben) They must get this all day. (Fazio) I'm sure they do.
(Fazio) In the TV show it looks like it's farther away, like, it looks like it's in it's own thing.
But I guess the shot, um,
they probably just base it on it. I don't know whether it was the actually thing or not. But who knows?
Because it looks a little bit different, but still... it's cool.
That's all I've got to say about that. (Ben) You're developing a look.
(Fazio) Is that right? (Ben) Yeah. (Fazio) Yeah, I took a picture of myself in the
in the elevator. And I was like...
it's actually pretty cool. (Ben) Who is that guy? (Fazio) Who knew?
(Fazio) So, that's it. Six and - six hours and twenty minutes...
and we'll be in Grand Canyon. (Ben) Yeah.
(music starts) (Ben) Goodbye, Albuquerque.
(van drives by) (music continues)
(VO - Ben) Next stop... was The Grand Canyon. But not before pulling over to take in the wide open terrain
of the desert. Being from Connecticut, I'm used to being surrounded by woods.
Where I usually can't see for miles on end. But here...
I felt as sense of freedom and openness...
and even vulnerability.
(theme music starts) (VO - Ben) Next time... on Doing America.
We visit The Grand Canyon... where people practice squirrel whispering.
(Tourist call the squirrel's attention)
(VO - Ben) And the forest is on fire.
(theme music continues)
