I'm 26.
My name is Marcin Wegiera. I was born in Gdynia.
I've grown up in Gdynia. I live with my parents.
I've no wife, no kids, no girlfriend.
I'm a gardener, I cut grass...
I take care of trees, I prune them...
What can you do without education?
You can only sweep, you have no perspectives.
My name is Kamil Gaduła, I'm 30.
I was born in Gdynia. Now I live in Sopot.
I have a daughter. She is 4 years old.
I'm a leader of a group of 10 people from Caritas organization.
We are taking care of green areas here in the suburbs.
I learned in the special school in Gdynia in Witomin district.
Then I went to the Group of Shipbuilding Schools in Gdynia
but I didn't pass the exam because of my friends.
We were singing.
I was attending evening classes
and the rehearsals were in the evenings
so unfortunately I had to miss classes.
I was practicing singing.
I was writing song texts etc.
Unfortunately I wasn't successful.
Then I failed the maths exam
and Russian language exam too.
I have problems with exact sciences.
I can't learn it.
In other subjects I had good and very good marks.
Only those exact sciences...
I've quit school.
I applied to another school but I wasn't accepted.
Then I went to the army.
After the army
I couldn't find a job for a few moths.
Finally I found a job in a shop.
Then I worked in an aquapark.
Then I was hired to paint a graffiti and I did it
and the time passed...
My hobby is tattooing, painting,
drawing and other arts.
I seize the day.
I don't worry what will be tomorrow or the next year.
If I worried about it I would loose my mind and my hair would turn gray.
My biggest dream is
to work in art.
Because I love art.
It makes me feel like I develop myself all the time.
I help young people to develop themselves.
I explain them how to draw
and how to develop in drawing
or how to make one's own gallery.
I've graduated from the Technical School of Motor Vehicle Engineering in Gdynia
with specialization - service and repair of motor vehicles.
Thanks to this school
I discovered my manual skills.
It will be helpful in the future for sure and has already been helpful,
many times.
I've chosen the Technical School of Motor Vehicle Engineering
cause I didn't know what to study.
I didn't know what will I do in the future.
It was a spontaneous decision.
I thought that maybe I'll be good in it, that I'll find myself in it.
I've graduated from this school but
you know...
in my life I took up other jobs.
I've also completed a sawyer's course
which is also helpful for me here and now.
It's useful by wood logging, you know... paper etc.
Anyway the course itself gave me a lot.
Now I know how to behave with a tree
and how to cut it, how to prune it etc.
It's really a helpful thing.
Now I'd like to start a study of green spaces maintenance.
Why green spaces?
Because I work here in the park.
We create parks.
I'm sure I'll gain there some useful information
which will be helpful in this work.
We cut grass,
we prune trees etc.
It's the high season now, it's warm.
We have a lot of work now.
In winter...
we burn the gathered stuff
if we have permission.
There are only two weeks when we're allowed to do it.
So we burn branches, leaves and other stuff
which fell in autumn etc.
This is the park.
Before I wouldn't even call it a park.
The grass was 3 meters tall.
There was a total forestation.
But now I think you can call it a park.
Many people say so too.
They come here to walk a dog or play with kids.
They're delighted.
They like the changes here.
They appreciate our work in this area.
Their reactions are positive.
I like this job here.
I like working with youth. Before I did some streetworking.
I like helping people who need help.
Difficult moments?
Most often I had to count on myself.
Here we've received support from the City Council, from Ms Małgosia Powłucka
It's because of her that I started working here.
She helped me
to find myself here.
It's thanks to her that I took up this job here.
I don't complain. It's really great.
I have worked with different people here since 3 years.
I really like this job.
I think that I'd like to do this job till the end of my life
cause it's a job in the open air and I feel great here.
Every day brings something good.
Every day gives me another lesson.
I decided to come back to school
because I wanted to earn more money
and to have more possibilities to choose.
School is like a key to a gate of the whole world.
Without education you keep staying in one place.
You hang around drinking beer at the backyard or at the staircase.
You've got to pull yourself together
and make your small dreams come true.
I think it's worth to study. It's useful in life.
Even if your specialization isn't fully right
you can always profit by something good.
Who knows? It may also be useful in the future.
The film shows youth from Sopot realizing projects in cooperation between Caritas organization of Gdańsk Archdiocese and Community of Sopot City in 2012-2013.
