Hi guys, it's Marine. Welcome back to
My Llittle English Page. Today my folks are
in town, so I thought it'd be the perfect
occasion to talk about family members.
You just heard me use the word folks.
Folks is a word that you used to refer to your
parents. So let's start with a very
traditional type of family. Father and
mother. A father, the patriarch, can be
referred to as dad, daddy, dadda and
many many other words. The mother
the matriarch is mom, mommy, mama and again
many, many different words.
Now, you probably have brothers and sisters.
Your brothers and sisters can be compiled
into one word and those are your
siblings. And if we go back a few
generations, we have the grand parents.
Your grandparents...everybody has their
own word to talk about grandparents but
some typical traditional words for
grandfather could be grandpa, grams or nonno.
And for your grandmother you could
have grandma, granny nanna.
Let's get out of the typical, traditional type of family.
If your parents are separated or
divorced and they have a new partner.
If your dad is with another woman that
woman is your stepmother.
If your mom is with another man that man is your
stepdad. Now if your step dad or your
stepmom already had children prior to
this new relationship, those children are
your stepbrothers or stepsisters.
But, what if
your stepmom and dad have children.
They become your half-brothers and sisters
because you have one parent in common.
Alright guys, that's it for today. I really hope
you found this video useful. Those words
really, really confused me when I was
learning English so I hope it's all
clear for you now.
