Hi, I’m Brad, a senior and Madison Advising Peer here at JMU I’m going to give you a little bit of information about
the free bus system we have at JMU and how it can help you get from one class to class.
I’ll also show you tools you can use when building your class schedule to determine
if there is enough time to get from one building to another when you have back to back classes.
JMU is a large campus and the Inner Campus Shuttle, or as we call it, “ICS” can help you make your way around.
The Inner Campus Shuttle runs between east campus and west campus starting
around 7:15 in the morning.
There are two routes running at all times, going in opposite directions. ICS Gold runs from Festival on East Campus towards Memorial Hall on the west campus.
ICS Purple begins the route from Memorial Hall and ends at Festival.
The buses are scheduled to reach each stop every 10-15 minutes,
but this depends greatly on traffic. For a fairly accurate location of the bus
you can download the JMU Bus Schedule app from the app store on your smart phone for $1.99, but it’s not a necessity.
Here is an example of the Inner Campus Shuttle Schedule for Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday.
The schedule for Tuesday and Thursday is different due to the differing class times.
Class times are scheduled with fifteen-minute breaks from
the end of one class to the beginning of the other. While it might be easy to take back-to-back classes in the same building,
it can be difficult to get from East Campus to the Quad without being late to class.
This is why we recommend using our “Can I Get There On Time Map” as you enroll in classes.
In general, any two boxes on the map connected by a black arrow
indicate that you will be able to make it from one area to the
other within the 15 minutes allotted in between classes.
However, everyone’s walking pace is a little different, so keep that in
mind when building your class schedule.
While this map and the bus are useful tools for traveling between classes
we suggest that you try to spread your classes throughout the day.
You should not plan on leaving early from a class or being late to a class.
Professors will not be ok with the excuse that you have a class on the other side of campus.
By scheduling your classes farther apart you can eliminate all conflicts and this will also give you ample time to grab lunch with your friends, stop by the library to study, stay after class
to ask your professor any questions, or if it’s nice out throw the Frisbee on the Quad.
