Hi, I'm Renato Brignone
and for years I have been working on the best crutch ever and now I think I've got it.
This is the Tompoma, a crutch in titanium alloy, extremely robust,
tuned to your needs, beautiful, functional, practical, comfortable: the best crutch ever built.
This is the place where all Tompoma crutches are assembled before being shipped worldwide.
Here we'll examine Tompoma's technical features and compare them with those of ordinary crutches.
This is a Tompoma crutch; its most outstanding feature is that it can be adjusted to the millimetre
to meet to the user's need just by tightening a clamp.
Whit this simple action I've got precision adjustament,
and I've got one clamp at the top of the crutch
and one at the bottom. What's more, this crutch is going to be absolutely quiet.
Let's consider an ordinary crutch, an ordinary orthopaedic crutch,
all you'll find are these holes here where at least a three-centimetre step
when you're adjusting your crutch for height, and this is your lock mechanism:
a hole that can slide, a bolt and you've got to which you have
to adjust and that's going to be remarkably noisy.
Let's compare them:
here I've got a precision instrument tuned to my needs
which I can load up as much as I want and it won't flex at all, ensuring maximum reliability.
Here we have a roughly adjusted tool, that will bend when loaded
and will bend more in summer than in winter because that's what happens with plastic.
Let's take a look at the build features:
here we've got plastic material coming into contact with skin.
With Tompoma crutches you get a leather grip which is extremely beneficial
because leather absorbs sweat
then when you put it down it will release humidity into the air.
This means that every time use my crutch I'm holding a dry surface.
I also have padding on the forearm-rests;
this is the forearm-rest that we use, it can be just aluminium, or with padding and leather cover
there are various leather trim options,
so that we have a dual advantage of better grip and better styling.
The Tompoma is the only crutch that has ever been designed to be accessorised.
Let's start with something simple but really important, the rotating forearm-rest that,
when fitted, lets me have a movable hold on one crutch,
and here is something else we've designed, a ski attachment that turns the crutch into a stabiliser;
in effect you fit the ski to the crutch and use it as stabiliser.
We made this joint so that it can be adjusted securely to predetermined, fixed positions.
We are presently working on the possibility to building a snowshoe attachment for winter hiking.
We're sure we've created the best, the most comfortable
and strongest crutch ever to have been conceived.
WHY IS EASIER TO WALK WITH A TOMPOMA?
Tompoma was designed in order to modify the centre of gravity.
In short, an ordinary crutch has an angle of incidence with ground of less than 90°,
therefore I'm required to give myself a boost to go past the crutch.
When fully loaded, Tompoma is at 90° to the ground
so I just shift my centre of gravity and I'll step forward.
WHY IS STYLING SO IMPORTANT WITH TOMPOMA?
Because my idea of crutches is that they are accesories, complementing your clothing.
We might spend thousands of Euros for a pair of shoes that will be out of fashion by next season
but we think crutches should be just a cheap orthopaedic tool.
Instead, you can actually wear your crutch;
Tompoma crutches have been designed to be tuned to your needs and to be comfortable,
but also to be beautiful.
HOW CUSTOMISABLE IS THE TOMPOMA?
Almost infinitely. There're lots of variants and colours.
There are various kinds of leathers.
For example: this is hand-stitched crocodile skin.
And it's not just a question of style the grip will be different
with a handle in crocodile, pyton or lizard skin.
This is the Made-In-Italy concept taken to the extreme:
all the leather is made in Italy, traditional hand stitching is done in Italy
the soldering and the components are made in Italy;
it is, in fact, a product conceived and designed to valorize italian craftsmanship.
WHAT IS TOMPOMA KEY FEATURE?
Let's say that the key to Tompoma is self-evident:adaptibility;
by changing the forearm-rest it can be turned into a crutch for kids
and this angle in the design is something that stands out a mile
and it's what lets me do something I can only do with Tompoma crutches:
park them so that they're safely out of the way and I'm sure they won't fall down.
