Hi, Guys, and Welcome to Studio Knit.
Today we are going to create String Eggs. This is a great Spring Time and Easter Holiday
Craft Project. With supervision, kids of all ages love helping with this colorful, messy
project. Each egg can be unique in color, yarn, size, and shape.
They make great home décor items in baskets. Strung up as a Holiday Banner adds a fresh
festive touch indoors or at a party in the park.
The Materials you will need are: Balloons, Yarn, Craft Glue, Water, Small Container,
Parchment Paper, and Scissors
Step One: Wrap Yarn around a partially blown up balloon.
The yarn can be any type. To make sure, I have used cotton, wool, acrylic, and some
really crazy yarn of indeterminate origin. Wrap in any direction you fancy: Zigzag, horizontal,
vertical, or a combination of all.
Step Two: Soak your yarn balloon in diluted glue mixture.
About one part glue to four parts water seems to do the trick! Either get specialized craft
glue. Or, regular Elmers Glue works just fine, as well.
Step Three: Let Dry for up to Three Days Be patient! Dry your eggs on wire racks with
parchment paper below to catch the dripping glue. Depending on your climate, it can take
up to three days for your eggs to be completely dry, so plan accordingly.
Step Four: Pop the Balloon! Prior to popping your balloon, I suggest squeezing
the eggs to help loosen the yarn from the balloon. That first layer of yarn is especially
stubborn to loosen. Poking the balloon a bit with your finger helps, too!
Step Five: Remove the Balloon and Shape If the balloon does not completely separate
from the yarn upon popping, gently take your fingers and help guide it loose.
I hope you enjoyed learning how to make your very own String Eggs.
