Hey everyone this is Chad with Mahalo video games here to reviewed NyxQuest Kindred Spirits
NyxQuest is one of the better 2D puzzle adventure games I think I’ve ever played
not to mention it’s visually striking Originally released for the Nintendo Wii as a
downloadable game for ten bucks, NyxQuest was recently released on PC for the same exact
price. Simple controls mixed with beautiful scenic backgrounds make for a truly
stunning experience
Based on the mythological stories of Icarus you play as Nyx, a winged creature
of the clouds who embarks on a journey to find Nicarus after disaster strikes Earth
The story is told in the short montage of Greek style paintings coupled with enchanting
music that sets the scene perfectly really
While there are no breaks for these montages in between levels, you periodically
encounter an unnamed god who guides Nyx through her journey
The approach is simple and effective providing a small emotional edge that you
don't normally witness in 2D puzzle adventure games
Now, I know what many of you are probably thinking
This game looks lame and if I wanted to watch faeries I’d turn on Peter Pan
I had the same exact reservation. Nyx is no Lara Croft but she can fly, glide,
and jump with great ease and it's really fun effortlessly controlling her movements
Towards the beginning of the story though
I realized that the main character in the game isn’t even her
it's the levels
The developers have done a great job creating depth in a two dimensional setting
sometimes I actually thought that the game would take a 3D turn because the
layouts are so vast and at times breathtaking
Whether it's stacking blocks
navigating through treacherous layouts or strategically flying and gliding
in between obstacles, these levels are both challenging and fun
The game actually reminded me of the first Prince of Persia on PC minuses
the torturous spikes of a junk
but there are spikes, just no painful genetalia impalements
They’re defnitely challenging though, sometimes extremely frustrating
but not to the extent of a Mega man game thank God
Even still because the game is so Addictive, you can't resist the
okay
This-will-be-the-time-I-get-it mentality
Fortunately there are checkpoints strategically scattered throughout the
levels that reward your persistence. Now you will get stuck at various points
but it's usually because of the small detail that always seems blatantly
obvious once you figure it out
Every couple levels Nyx receives a new Skill, by the end of the game you'll
sometimes be using many skills simultaneously
provided for suspenseful gameplay that will leave you feeling like a multi
tasking bamf
While overwhelming and fun, I did get annoyed when I felt like the only way to
get past some parts was to intentionally lose life and utilize the three second grace
period of the characters blinking body to pass through enemies and obstacles
Still, it won't let you down with its gorgeous level design an intelligent
gameplay
NyxQuest Kindred Spirits
is an original game that will leave you wanting to play through it again and
again
Bottom line, I give it a four out of five
