The Xingu river has always been an old friend.
It was the first river I knew, the Xingu river.
Each part of the Amazons is home to different species.
We live within a distinct Eco-region that cannot be replaced.
Over a million people had to move
because of the hydroelectric plants in Brazil.
The idea behind the Belo Monte project is as old as electricity:
pick a meander and cut it off.
Only here,
it is one of the longest turns in one of the largest rivers in Brazil.
That is why this is such a disaster.
We barely know the fauna in this zone.
Conservation-wise it is a temerity.
This won't help us develop. It is mindless destruction
All we work and fight for ends here.
We'll depend on him up there just to survive.
The Eastern Amazons will be affected by the arrival
of over a thousand people in search for temporary jobs.
The government is ignoring reality.
They do not study the issue, or take measures. No clue.
This will bring prosperity to a dead city.
We play because there is no work.
Some are for, some against it. I'm against it.
It's my opinion.
They'll make a big hole over all those estates.
Mine might disappear, forever.
Let's go to the cocoa plantation of my friend Sydney.
We believe that over 30 thousand people
will be removed from their places, lands and homes...
from their habitat.
If I have to leave here, I don't know where I'll go.
I don't know if I can buy more land. I'll try.
I know who I am, where I come from, what I want.
I am an Indian girl who came to fight.
I still do, and I plan to win.
Killing the Xingu means killing the indigenous people.
Indians are more efficient than the federal government
in preserving the forest.
We are not killing a cultural heritage.
The Indians can go there or to the Cristo Redentor.
They call us demons,
say we slow down the development of Brazil.
We are willing to sacrifice our lives to defend our rights.
I wake up thinking of Belo Monte,
I go to work thinking of Belo Monte, against Belo Monte.
We are here to demonstrate our dissatisfaction,
our outrage with this initiative.
It's colonization, we are the colony, and I revolt against it.
Because the state of Para and Amazonia are always a colony.

"it will bury and hide that which now shines."
