My name is Pakee Fang. I'm a marine core veteran, currently serving as a patent examiner in
art unit 2617.
During our senior year in high school, me and my buddy, we decided to enlist because
we both feel that, there's a desire to serve this country.
I had the opportunity to travel abroad. Our main mission at the time was to provide, like,
medical aid, dental, and also food, water, to the local villagers
and some of those kids come to receive those medical and dental services.
They were like, the first time, to ever, to see a doctor.
After seeing that, I really, really am proud to be like, a marine, and an American.
I found out about this job, during a job fair, and then I submitted my resume.
I was fortunate to get an interview. The recruiter told me to apply through the USA jobs website,
which I did
and a couple of months after, I was offered a position as a patent examiner.
A patent gives the inventor, an exclusive right for twenty years, which no one else
can market, or make, or use this invention which he claimed in the patent.
My job is to make sure that invention, is novel. There is nothing like it that has been
done out there.
On my computer I will perform what is called a search, and I will type in all the key words,
that is being applied to the application.
Then I would look over all the prior arts, the previous granted patents, to ensure there
is nothing like it.
What I like about my job is the sense of purpose it brings. Every time I grant a patent, it
helps to foster scientific and global innovation.
This in turn helps to create more jobs and expand the existing knowledge of the entire
community.
My military and educational background prepared me for this job, because the military taught
me how to be persistent when confronted with obstacles
and since I'm an electrical engineer, it provided me with the technical background, which is
essential for this job.
This job requires a lot of self determination, self motivation, and dedication.
Those values, which I learned from the military, carry over to this job.
Veterans are more mission oriented. They focus on the assignment at hand and mission accomplishment
is a must
which you don't find a lot of these leadership qualities in a person freshly out of school.
The reason why I choose to serve as a Federal servant, is that I need to give back to this
country. I need to do something, for the people.
My name is Pakee Fang. I'm a marine core veteran. I'm also a patent examiner.
