We are going to finish a Leopard connector.
You remember that we have installed
the connector cover in the fiber and
the nut was inserted on the jacket.
In this case we can see a 4mm fiber but
this video is also valid if you have a 3mm fiber.
First of all, we separate the kevlar wires and now
we can see the fiber,
now, we enter the tube putting the fiber inside them,
the tube must trap the kevlar wires as tight as you can.
The kevlar wires must be spread on all the circle.
The kevlar wires are going to protect this connector...
from pullings, for that...
stretch the wires softly.
Next, we are going to make the first crimping...
the side "ST" of the crimping tool should be opposite the connector.
I mean the "ST" side up.
we put the nut into the crimping zone,
this way crimps the nut to the jacket.
Now, the nut is fixed to the jacket.
Next, we are crimping the tube with the nut,
we crimp the tube...
at the end part.
We can see both parts crimped.
The tube, the nut and the jacket.
Now, we have to insert the ferrule...
in the fiber.
We release the protection cover from the ferrule,
we introduce the fiber in the central tube of the ferrule.
It is a bit difficult.
Once the fiber enters, we can see it going out from the ferrule,
we introduce the ferrule into the tube while pulling from the fiber slightly.
with this action we check the integrity of the fiber.
The following crimping is very IMPORTANT, TAKE CARE!
we have to do it in the correct way.
we also use the crimping tool with the "ST" part face up
as close as possible to the ferrule, but without moving it.
we clamp the tool a bit and...
we turn the tool until the *** is perpendicular to the crimp.
It is very IMPORTANT that the *** was perpendicular to the crimp
When the position is correct we crimp the tube and the ferrule.
Now, all the crimping are finished.
Next we cut the kevlar wires,
this is an aestetic action.
we push the connector cover to its position.
And finally we have to cut the fiber, for this action we have...
a special diamond blade cutter to perform a...
perpendicular and perfect cutting.
There are two kinds of cuttings:
- Firstly for a emitter connector (Laser Output label).
we put directly the connector into the tool and we perform the cutting.
- Secondly for a receiver connector (Laser Input label).
in this part we need that the fiber were outside the connector a bit.
and for this we put a small stop plate in the connector before cutting.
you can see that the plate is between the connector and the tool...
and now we push the trigger softly...
Done! be careful with the rejected fiber it is dangerous for your eyes.
we have to put this fiber in a place under control.
An now the connector is finished.
After this, it is very IMPORTANT to protect the connector and
to put the end cover.
