Developer Crytek has announced that Ryse, the first-person Roman combat game first revealed
back in 2010, is now being developed exclusively for Xbox One.
A post on the company's site doesn't reveal much, other than that it will have "controller-based
gameplay enhanced by Kinect." There's also a countdown clock promising we'll find out
more in 19 days at E3.
Before you worry too much about that Kinect integration, know that IGN went body-on with
Kinect 2.0 yesterday and is happy to report that it's actually pretty awesome.
Ryse was first teased as Codename: Kingdoms at E3 2010 before getting an official reveal
a year later. Mutterings that the game had been redesigned as a next-gen title were heard
in late 2011 based on the LinkedIn resume of a Crytek designer.
Earlier this month, we heard reports that the game had been re-worked into a next-generation
game "designed to be Microsoft's new Gears of War / Halo mega launch title."
Yesterday Microsoft announced that 15 exclusives would be coming to the Xbox One in its first
year, of which eight would be new franchises. Taking this news with the announcement of
Quantum Break, it seems we now know two of the new properties.
The Xbox One reveal was very light on games -- however, Microsoft has promised more game
reveals at its E3 press conference, which is at 9:30AM on Monday, June 10. You can watch
the event live here at IGN with pre- and post-show analysis and special guests. Until then, stay
tuned to IGN.
