Once we've figured out what the scale of the letters is going to be, again, it's five pen
widths with the lower case x height and three pen widths for the ascenders. Then, you're
going to take that scale and measure a grid for yourself. In this case, this is 5/8 of
an inch and 3/8 of an inch. And the guidelines are going to be there in order to support
the letters. So the letters are going to fit within that space, like so. So as much as
drawing guidelines and measuring isn't the most exciting aspect of lettering, it's certainly
a necessary aspect of lettering because it allows us to keep our letters very consistent
and even, and we can, oh not too very well on the f there, we can make beautiful letters
that are equal in height and so an equal in width and that gives a nice pleasing consistency.
I'll make one more letter here. Now I haven't gridded the bottom of the g and the bottom
of the f, that will talk about that.
