Ahoy thar, Legion!
Today I am going to be playing the no-nonsense Lucian. I recorded this game almost immediately
after my last one as Zyra AKA Plant Chick, so I was a bit more warmed up and confidant
than previously. Again, before we go on with Lucian's moves, we gotta show off that dance.
Aw yeah. Now for the record, the guns don't look very aerodynamic, so to be able to counter-act
their clunky design is rather impressive.
Lucian's passive is a buff to his auto attack, every time you use one of his abilities your
auto attack fires off twice. It reminded me a bit of the Trinity item, in fact if I play
him again I'd say Trinity would fit him rather well. But as I was still learning that here,
I did not haha But this is how we learn things. In short, use an ability and then auto attack
in between. Pop in a Trinity for a boost to that play style.
Lucian sports two damage dealing attacks, and a dodge. The first attack is Piercing
Light and it locks onto an enemy you hover your mouse on and shoots in a straight line
a distance behind it. This one felt kinda weird as most abilities are directly targeted
or an AoE, but here the cursor sorta snaps from enemy to enemy to show you where the
shot will land. Helpful, but different from what I'm used to. Good way to hit champions
ducking behind their minions, by the by!
His second damaging ability is Ardent Blaze and it fires in a cross or X-like shape. It
will change rotation based on your placement, so there is a bit of skill involved on landing
it on specific targets. (You'll always hit something, but the tricky part is hitting
what you are aiming at.) It also makes the enemies glow a bit, and if you shoot those
guys you'll get a short speed boost for a short time. I'd say it's mostly situational
for that bonus, but I'm thinking it's there to help chase champions down.
But if that doesn't work, Relentless Pursuit outta do it! It's a really short distance
dash. It has the added benefit of wiping any sort of slow effects you get hit with, and
if you get a kill with his ultimate the cooldown is reset. Both of which are again useful but
mostly situational. The biggest thing here is the mana cost and cooldown decrease with
each level in it, all the way down to being free at max rank so I tended to put points
here early on. A offense slash defensive mana free dash which grants a free double auto
attack with each use. Nice all in one combo!
His ultimate is called The Culling and it, like his first attack, feels a little wonky.
When you pop this ability you fire a barrage of bullets in whatever direction you choose.
While you are unloading you are free to move, but each shot is hit scanned so if a minion
wobbles in the way your super cool move is going to be partially or totally wasted on
the rugrat. Now, the cooldown for the ability it low and you can move, but generally it
is over before you know it. This is likely something you get used to the more you play
him, but for this quick one-shot of Lucian, I don't think I fully utilized it very well.
I will say early on Lucian is extremely stilted. He almost reminds me of a LoL version of Batman
from Arkham Asylum. He's very point a to point b and no nonsense, but he isn't very flexible
and it comes across through the controls. I'd say ignore the suggested items and get
a pair of Berserkers Greaves A-SAP. (Not to be confused with B-sap)
Onto the Highlights!
Starting off I didn't know much other than what his abilities did, so I got the Suggested
Items. And of course, trying to dance for this recording I hit the wrong button and
blew one of my summoner spells right off the bat.
Smooth as silk!
Going top again, this time not solo! I got Malacazam with me. Knowing the mystical Shaquille
O'Neal is at my side takes a lot of the pressure off. Nervous on the battlefield? Fear not!
Shaq's got your back!
Our opponents are Shield Woman and... the dang dirty ape NuNu. As soon as I saw his
artic behind hopping his way over and he launched his ice ball, it was like time stood still
since I played League last. Just his presence
alone is a taunt to the entire enemy team. It's like every time you see him he's running
hot and enraged, swinging haymakers left and right. And just when you think you got a chance,
frost grenade to the chin. Now you are slow, damaged, and dude is gaining fast. And he
never slows down! He never slows down.
Nunu. Eskimo-in for Eater of Hopes and Drinker of Dreams.
Clearly NuNu thinks the match is already won. A show of force must be made.
You lowered my health?
I lowered you into the ground.
In Good News it only took me three minutes to get a killing blow this time around! That's
a right bit better than 28 last time!
Less than 30 seconds after I get my Ultimate, Shield Woman wanted to get all snuggly with
me. Well, who am I to disappoint a lady? Clearly she was intrigued with Lucian's ult, so I
was more than happy to display it for her. Unfortunately this had the untimely affect
of killing the poor thing, but just a minute later she was back up and running, so no harm
no foul.
I decided to play chicken with the tower and shoot the mangy beast before dashing out of
it's range. Hee hee hee (I feel like Don Quixote! text?) It's almost as fun as pretending someone
is chasing after you and rushing to open the door in time and finding out that someone
really is chasing after you and it's me.
We get pushed back to our tower and I get slightly hung up on the ability information
for the ultimate, namely how much mana it costs, as I know I should fire it off soon.
During this time dagnabit NuNu hits me with a snowball and I almost end up getting killed.
I end up using my ult on Shield Woman again, but half of it was wasted on lesser minions.
At least I ran her off and Shaq again had my back before I Recall'd back to base.
The game recommends a Bloodthirster, but I'm always leery about stacks lost on death and
the item's stat weighs being scaled based on those very stacks. I prefer to have a strong
base item than one that grows in strength, at least one who's strength can quickly diminish
like that. We've all been stuck in a hopeless situation, nothing is worse than knowing not
only did you die, but now you have to do the same thing over again, only this time half
of your bonuses have been removed. Fun stuff.
[audience cheering]
>> LAD: Good evening ladies and gentlemen! We have another Installment of Item Wars for
you all! Tonight the roster is Static Shiv and Phantom Dancer. this is going to be a
close one, Capin.
>>CAPPIN': Aye it is Lad! These two are both fine cutlasses made for cleaving any one who
speaks unfavorably of ye!
>> LAD: Do you think either one has the advantage today, Capin?
>>CAPPIN': Keen eye, boy! Ye'd be a worthy additon to me Crows Nest!
>> LAD: Why thank-you!
>>CAPPIN': These two pieces uh steel look nary identical in terms of power, lad.
>> LAD: Indeed they do, Capin.
>>CAPPIN': Now we can go back n fort till the tides change, but it won't make a lickadiffrence
if the player in control doesn't know what he's doin.
>> LAD: Right you are again! For me, I think he'll go with the Static Shiv.
>>CAPPIN': Bold prognostication, Lad! And I say he'll settle on a Phantom Dancer.
>> LAD: Why is that, Capin?
>>CAPPIN': If ye be asking me which I'd rather have in me hands, a Static Shiv holds no power
over a Phantom Dancer, if you catch me drift, boy.
>> LAD: I think I do...
>>CAPPIN': It may be the older profession, but it'll always be like new to me!
>> LAD: Oh, look there! I think he's finally coming to a decision! It looks like...
>>CAPPIN': Come on lad, I got fifty doubloons on dis!
>> LAD: Double or Nothing, Capin?
>>CAPPIN': Fire the cannon! The deal is struck!
>> LAD: Annnd... (disappointed) it's Phantom Dancer by a nose.
[Cappin' laughing loudly in the background.]
>>CAPPIN': Never bet against a sailor o' fortune, lad!
>> LAD: I'll make it back eventually. We'll catch you next time on Item Wars!
>>CAPPIN': Stay Salty, lads!
>>CAPPIN': ...And stay lonely, ladies! -_^
Look at how organized this burst damage is by the enemy team. And this is still on easy,
mind you. NuNu, of course, leads the charge and slows Shaq. Then Shield Chick comes in
with a stun and it's over before you know it. But, not before Ashe blows an ult trying
to kill steal.
Sneaky, sneaky Ashe!
Hot on the trail of their last gank Shield Woman and the lowly Nunu try to layer a stun
and slow on me. Luckily I Dash out before anything bad happens. NuNu stays on me like
a guy at a car dealership that will not take a hint, and I pop my Ult on him. I actually
unload the entire duration on him, in spite of him slowing me by throwing a ball of the
deadly yellow snow. I was quite pleased with my placement on that.
I really want to get this turret down, but I end up getting tagged by the tower and immediately
stunned and then locked down by Shield Woman and Ryze. I Dash away like Santa Clause and
barely make it back to base in tact. Luckily at this point...
At this point Ahri gets a Quadra Kill, which is a good sign we're probably going to win.
Jinx goes around from behind and plants her stun traps just behind Rise and Shield Woman.
I was able to Dash towards them and use my ultimate, unfortunately both get low but they
unintentionally block each other so the damage is split. Then they run past minions who dissipate
any further damage, so keep this in mind that position is a huge part of Lucian's ultimate.
Luckily she turns around and Jinx and I are able to take her down.
Inhibitor!
Turret! Turret!
Aaaand game! And of course, the savage Nunu getting the last word. Either way we learned
a new champion and did a lot better than the last game! GG!
Here are my stats for that game. Not great, barely good in my opinion, but still not bad
for my second game back. And looky-looky! Someone gave me a Teamwork Badge o' Honor!
Not sure if it was for this game or a delayed pop-up from Zyra, but either way thanks for
whoever threw it my way. You know what? I'm betting it was Malakazam. That guy is great.
Even out of the game Shaq's got my back!
