Hi Guys! Today it's all about this knife. Some of you will have seen it at Tim from steintanz or at Scott from bassfuryvi.
It is from Hultafors. I don't know how to pronounce it, because i can't speak swedish.
This knive is for hacking. So far I have only used Mora knife and they are 2 to 2.5 mm thick. This one is 3mm and heavy.
I could not yet check if it is a full tang knive. But scott noticed already if you try to balance it it will fall to the hand side.
I am a fan of scandi grind. This knife is not scandi grind.
Other knifes from Hultafors has a scandi grind - known from finnish or swedish knives, but this one has a second bevel.
I prefer a single bevel so I will try to get it flat.
Yes. Now it is flat. It is not as easy as you think.
After I grinded the blade roughly, I will sharpen it.
I have just not said how the knife is called. Original name "Grovkniv", Grand knive - I guess.
Hultafors - I guess this is the right way to pronounce it. Fredde will know this better.
I will sharpen it now. Don't try to make it my way. If you wan't to know who to sharpening and care knifes go to Izulabite - he is the man. To all knife fan's: Don't look at this ;)
I use a syntetic water stone. It was a gift. It is a 1000/3000. It is good for sharpen, but as you can see it can't polish the blade.
Pretty sharp.
The knife for the tough work is now sharp. This is completely sufficient. Not a cuting monster, but completely sufficient.
This is the knive I am looking for. A good fact is that this part is not finished. The edge is sharp so I can even strike the mil-tec firesteel - and that is not the best firesteel.
This is my fire board from the challenge. jollyrotscha says it could be hazle - maybe.
Pretty good. I am not a fan off hacking with knives - but who cares.
I will maintain the blade - japanese carbon steel - I guess it is not stainless - I will give oil to it.
