I guess you mentioned that you wanted to build a world-class university here, at least the Engineering and Science.
Can you really do that?
Can you do that in Ruston, Louisiana, for example, at Louisiana Tech?
So, with this building and with this integrated learning, do you believe that you can actually do that?
If our vision is to be the best college in the world at integrating engineering and science, and education, research, is that just a slogan?
Just something you say to promote, to get more students to come and find you, or is it something real?
And, Hilton, for me, it is real.
I think it is the competitive advantage that our university has.
It’s the thing that we do better than any other university.
It’s the thing that we can continue to do better as long as we stay ahead of that curve, stay ahead of other universities in terms of this integration.
I think the best college in the world, if we knew who that was, if it wasn’t Louisiana Tech, present company excepted, if we were probably to find the best college in the world to do this integration,
I’m certain that they would have the facility that enables that. It wouldn’t be scattered in multiple buildings,
and it wouldn't be pieced together in the basement of a building that was built 50 years ago.
And, I’m certain that, if we were to attract students, and educate them, and retain them through to graduation, who are capable of being the best engineers and scientists in the world,
we need a place that showcases our approach to engineering and science, education and a place that honors the work that we have done here the last ten years and make that happen.
I think it’s our most important need in the college right now, even if I looked at research needs and other things that were happening.
It affects all the programs. It affects the most important mission of our university, which is the education mission.
