>>Erik: What does it mean to be a humanitarian?
>>Adam: I think the most important component of being a humanitarian is to really go back
the roots of the word itself. I think a lot times we think of humanitarian work and we
immediately have this conceptual idea of ‘Oh, it’s doing the work like that organization
out on the field’. I think the most important thing is to take a step back and realize being
a humanitarian is about recognizing the humanity within all of us and from that acting upon
that common bond we have. Because I think once we are able to recognize every human
in the world as an equal or having equal, having equal rights or having equal desires,
equal fears, once we see that – once we recognize that common humanity I think from
there the work itself is just a natural extension… okay? So once I recognize that you and I share
this common bond of humanity, I am going to then… through my work, I’m going to then
try to bring us back to a similar level, I’m going to then try to improve your life so
that we have – we… exist on a more equal plane.
