About 2500 people including women, man, children, adolescents, Afro-Columbian and members of indigenous
communities gathered in the big auditorium of the National University of Colombia in Bogotá
last Thursday, September 12th to unite their voices and demands in the great Agrarian National Peasant and Popular Summit
After 24 days of mobilization in 22 departments of the country
and the impulse which remains since the initiation of the National Agrarian and Popular Strike on August 19th
various sectors gathered there with diverse issues to discuss
Only because of our fight it is posible to regain the land
and fight the political devastation that is imposed on us
Olga Quintero from ASCAMCAT pointed out the importance of the launch of this National summit
and the national agrarian pact verified by the government of Santos
We believe that this is a real space of discussion for all the agrarian sectors of the country,
where we will point out all the important issues of the colombian counrtyside,
diferent to what the colombian government is doing with the national agrarian pact,
where apart from the Peasants guilds like................ have been invited to the table
and with which we dont feel supported by the government
Papa con Yuca! IN this context we all asume the spirit of "Papa con Yuca"
and we add: I want more equality!
and we are lots of things more! we are a link to say that some people want us to fail!
The event was also atended by Iván Cepeda Castro and Hernando Hernández Tapasco, members of the House of Representatives,
senator Gloria Inés Ramírez and the spokeswoman of the "Marcha Patriótica Piedad Córdoba"
the proposal of President Santos:
First of all i consider it necessary to clarify what is meant by a national agrarian pact
Of what would this Pact consist?
What would be its specific objectives?
and what the measures for the time after, for the case the pact is acomplished?
The union leader of motorcycle-workers stated that the recent government seeks to divide the different peasant sectors
The governemt has allways tried to to divide and secotrize every sector
by saying that the need of every sector is indivudal and not linked to those of others
But our Pciture of this should be diferent, we should all be sitting together on one single table
The strike was national, so should the be table
Despite the severe repressive and militaristic response given by the Santos government in relation to the social protest of the agrarian sector
the peasants continue to boost their petitions and demands
We demand the nationalization of the colombian economies and the agrarian production
Why is it necessary to import more than 10 million tons of food wheras we have the capacity to produce it ourselves
In our proposals we promote the continuation of the artisanal mining explotation
which is the tradition of many afro- and indigineous people for many centuries
that have been exercicing this profession in balance with nature, Unlike what the multinationals are doing in this moment
Furthermore, we have proposals about the permanence of our terretories, the construction of life plans, proposals for education, proposals for health,
and all of that in balance and harmony between mankind and nature
During the summit various sectors manifested the importance of the unity of all sectors
I appeal to the whole country, that we have to reunite,
and that the unity is essential to transform the actual conditions in which the mayority of the colobmian people live
For the month of October 2013, with the massive participation of diverse public and social sectors,
the next great Agrarian National Peasant and Popular Summit is expected to be held in Bogota
We can not be oblivious of this moment in history!
So rise, companions, to acomplish for what we have been struggling on the highways,
and we will not retire until the end, so forward fellows!! For the united poeple!
