>> The retail merchandizing and management program at UW Stout is unique because of it's emphasis on active student learning and the application of what is learned in the classroom to workplaces in the retail industry.
The program prepares students for successful employment in corporate merchandising and buying, store operations and management, human resource management and fashion marketing and promotion.
>> I believe what draws students to our program is very much the hands on minds on that Stout is known for.
>> I like the small class sizes and the approachability of all the professors.
You can just knock on their doors and you just know that they'll be able to help you or they're always willing to answer any questions that you have.
>> Our students have a lot of opportunities to get involved in the industry as well by doing an internship off campus at an employer for 10 to 12 weeks or they can do retail practicing course that we have on campus where they do all the budgeting, all the planning for the store on campus as well as the store operations.
>> After college, this summer actually I will be interning at Kohl's corporate and my hope is to land a position after completing my internship so I hope to be at a corporate level, entry level position after I graduate.
Our students really know how to do, as well as understand the theory but they're very much involved in actually doing and learning the process that makes a retail business successful.
>> The business minors also is pretty much built into our program so you only have to take one extra course and you'll have the business minor as well.
That's also really great.
>> Our program is very unique.
A lot of the feedback we get from our graduates is that the feel very prepared when they land into their jobs after graduation.
>> I've been able to be very flexible and get ahead within my major because we offer so many courses, during the summer and over winter and they can be on line or on campus.
>> So we also have a lot of experiences for the students like going to trade shows in Las Vegas to New York to see the market trends and even working behind the scenes from Miami Fashion Week.
>> It's also great that we have those close knit relationships, that we have the opportunity to do trips like this.
>> Not the feedback that a lot of employers give to us is that our students can hit the ground running and jump into their positions ready to go right away.
