It's much more comfortable for the dog to continue targeting the treat if she sits.
It's just basic mechanics. To prompt the "watch", I'm going to take it from her nose, just go
right up to my eyes, good girl, and pay right there. We'll be using clickers in class because
"watch" is such a quick behavior. And those are our mechanics.
The first behavior we're going to work on is "sit"
and mechanically, the way I'd like you to think about it is
not so much about the butt going down, as the head going up. OK? So if you watch, I've
got a food target, which he's kind of nibbling, and if I move his head just up slightly, it'll
be more comfortable for him to put his butt down if he wants to keep targeting. As soon
as the butt goes down, I let him have it, I pay it.
