I got a question about smoothies and do I have a fun twist on a recipe, and you know,
I get lots of questions on smoothies because they are so popular. They are so good. They
are so versatile. And, yeah, I have a new, fun twist that I would love to show you on,
sort of, a classic smoothie. I'm going to make a yogurt, strawberry, banana smoothie,
and add a little something fun. So, the way I would do that is I started with about, oh,
I don't know, about 6 strawberries. It's, when you cut them up, I would either halve
them or quarter them, if they're big. And, so it would end up being about 3/4 of a cup.
So I am going to put that in my little blender. And you could do this in a regular blender
or anything you have that blends. It just all works. So, to that, I'm going to add a
frozen banana. I like to have some of the fruit frozen. You also could add all fresh
fruit and add some ice, but, if I have time, I tend to keep some bananas that get really
ripe, wrap them up and put them in the freezer and they're perfect for something like smoothies.
They're just great. So in this case the banana is frozen. I could have frozen the strawberries
and done it that way. So, to that I'm going to add 6 ounces of greek yogurt; and, as I'm
sure you know, greek yogurt is very popular now. And, you can get it all over the place.
This is plain, unsweetened that I'm using here. If you wanted to use regular yogurt,
if you didn't have greek, that's fine. Or if you kind of want to make your own greek,
you can strain regular yogurt over cheesecloth in a strainer, over a bowl, overnight in the
refrigerator, and you kind of get the same thing. It's really just yogurt with some of
that liquid taken out. So, ok, now I've got that. And I'm also going to add just a little
bit of milk. You can use regular milk, almond milk, rice milk, kind of whatever you like.
And it works just fine. And that's just kind of to loosen it up. So I'm going to put the
top on and get this going, just a little bit. And then the next thing, I'm just going to
get it started, just so, and it's going to make a lot of noise, so bear with me. So,
once I've kind of gotten this started, I just add one last fine ingredient and that is granola.
And I wanted to just get it going so the granola doesn't get completely crushed up. So I've
got, you know, honestly any granola you have will work just fine. If it has raisins in
it, just throw them in. If you don't like it that chunky, you leave them out. So I'm
going to use, maybe, about 2 tablespoons or a tablespoon and a half or so, right in the
mixture. Now, I could also add oats, like oatmeal, but either cooked or uncooked to
this, a couple tablespoons. I could add almonds, roasted or just raw almonds would be fabulous
in this. If you like a chunkier style smoothie, which I happen to. Try anything in there like
that. Nuts, walnuts would be fabulous. It adds just a little bit more bulk, it's a little
bit more filling. I just think it adds a great texture, so, and I'm loving the granola. So
I'm just going to blend that up just a little bit further. I won't finish it completely,
I would keep going on that until it's super smooth. And I got one I just did that I poured
into a glass and as a fun touch I sprinkled a little bit more of the granola on top. And
I would just enjoy that in the morning. It would be hearty and delicious and fresh and
it would start me off for the day. So I hope you've enjoyed some smoothies. Of course you
can change fruit, you can, as I said, you can get the granola out and add nuts or something
else. You can really make these your own. This is just one example and these are just
so fresh and delicious so I really hope you enjoy one.
