Bazelon This particular site has been a site that has cried out for good things to happen
to it and to not continue as a vacant, sometimes, not sightly, large tract of land in the midst
of this vibrant community. I am particularly pleased that Floyd Alston is here today. More
than anyone else, what Beech is today is what Floyd Alston has done for Beech.
>>Hart This is a partnership that involves jobs for our community, homes for our students,
a welcoming place for international students who come to Temple University, but also international
scholars and the Sbarro Foundation is also going to be a partner. This will be a gathering
place where Temple will be the world and the Beech community will host the world and be
a part of the world. And I think that’s really significant because Beech is known
for its contributions to our North Philadelphia community. This international house is your
stamp on the world.
>>Clarke Today, we stand here before you all breaking ground on what I think will be a
wonderful, wonderful project. It is consistent with what we try to be about in government:
working partnerships, pulling together institutional support, community development support, pulling
together neighbors, partners and getting it done to enhance the community.
