Hi i'm Jeremy Danner. I'm one of the brewers here at Boulevard Brewing Company.
I want to take a quick second to talk to you about chocolate ale.
Chocolate Ale is a really anticipated release from our Smokestack series of beers.
We worked together with Christopher Elbow - who is a local chocolatier and makes fantastic
chocolates - to create this beer. I turns out that Christopher is kind of a
beer dork and everybody is kind of a chocolate dork so the connection between the two of
us really makes sense. We start with a base beer that's probably
unlike what you see in a lot of chocolate beers.
A lot of chocolate beers use a porter or a stout base and the chocolate is kind of an
afterthought. When we designed this beer, we really wanted
to create a beer that served as a showcase or a vehicle for the chocolate since that
is what the beer is called. We chose nibs from Valrhona that are sourced
in the Dominican Republic so you get a really nice bright chocolate flavor and aroma with
a slight nuttiness. The beer is 9.1 percent A.B.V., right at 24
I.B.U.s but it's really not about hops at all. It's all bittering hops; there's no late
hop edition. We really want that chocolate to shine.
We've worked very *** this beer and we hope you enjoy it.
Cheers.
