My name is Jules Hornung, I've been riding for about 3 years.
I had to choose a subject for my school project
and the idea of making my own longboard came naturally.
I talked to Nicolas Robert from 9.81 about the project,
who was really enthusiastic and gave me a lot of support.
He let me work in their workshop
and gave me the opportunity to use all their materials.
I also had the support from Rotule Longboards,
my sponsor at that time.
They accepted to give me their carbon fiber for my board.
Before I went to the workshop
I made plans of the board.
Specially for the carbon fiber model we had to press 3 times,
it's 2 times for the wooden one.
We cut away the wood in the middle of the board
and replaced it with polystyrene.
So we exchanged about 900 grams of wood with 40 of polystyrene.
This compensates the carbon fiber we used, which is very heavy.
In the end, the carbon fiber model won't be much lighter than the wooden one,
but it will be nearly indestructible and it will have no torsion at all.
Because we had to build a mold for this board,
it meant we could make a batch of them in the near future.
So it will become a new 9.81 model
that we will be selling soon.
And this is how my school project became commercialized.
First I would like to thank heartily Rotule Longboards
who gave me a lot of support with their carbon fiber.
Also Nicolas and Cedric Robert for all this last year.
Without them none of this would have been possible.
And of course Artiom Missiri,
who helped me for the video.
In the end I'm really glad with the final results
and I hope that this board will have a good future with 9.81!
