Hello and welcome to group 9's Google Earth tour. Our first visit will be the Pearl Harbor.
There are many historical sites and monuments in the world. A very historical site in the
U.S. is Pearl Harbor, located in Hawaii. The U.S. used Pearl Harbor as a trading port and
made a treaty with the king to allow American ships to enter a coal station on the land.
After the overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom, America established a naval base in 1899.
On Sunday December 7, 1941, Japanese attacked the military base killing thousands of soldiers
due to the conflicts with oil. This attack eventually brought the U.S. into WWII, but
in the end we were able to win. Many come to visit the historical sight to remember
those who lost their lives. Now we are going to Bern. No pun intended. Bern is also spelled
B.E.R.N.E. and it is the capital of Switzerland. Switzerland is a rather diverse country. despite
its relatively small population and land size. Switzerland shares borders with many countries
including Germany, Italy, France, Liechtenstein, and Austria, hence, the population of Switzerland
is made out of people from these countries. In Switzerland, sixty five percent of the
population is German, eighteen percent is French, ten percent is Italian, one percent
is Romansch, and six percent of the people belong to other ethnicities. Due to the diversity
of the country, the people of Switzerland speak many different languages. People in
Bern speak German, which is one the four national and official languages of Switzerland. The
reasons for Switzerland has four official languages is because most Swiss are multilingual.
The rest of their official languages are French, Italian, and a descendant of a Latin language
that was spoken in the Roman Empire, Romansch. And our next visit we are going to Japan.
With Shinto religion, which means ways of the god, was created in 660 B.C. It was used
to establish connection with present day and ancient past. Based on the religion, there
are over 100,000 shrines in Japan. The most famous is the Itsukushima shrine, which is
located in the city of Hatsukaichi, which the prefecture of Hiroshima, Japan. The shrine
was build in honor of the three daughters of the Shinto god of seas and storms, as well
as the brother of the sun Goddess. The original shrine was built in the 6th century with the
design to appear as if it were floating on water. And our last location will be the Western
Wall. Located in Old City of Jerusalem, Israel. Here the Hebrew language is spoken through
prayers as many make sacrificing pilgrimages to visit this wall. This attraction lies just
outside the Temple Mount, which is a sacred biblical location. Some parts of the Western
Wall can be dated back to the 19th BCE where Herod the Great was linked to some portions
of the wall itself. Hebrew is the main language of the country Israel that, not until 1967,
had full control over the Temple Mount and Western Wall. Many wanted the Holey land including
the Palestine's. Britain, and Jordan. Today, the wall serves as one of the most iconic
figures besides the Temple itself.
