For this week instead, we decided to talk about Remember Me,
recently released, itís a singleplayer that
we played and it has truly passionate us.
We decided to make this video review to highlight
some features of this game that it has been
underestimated and criticized by many.
Let's start by telling you immediately the particular background
that is behind the creation of this game.
Remember Me was developed by a French newcomer software-house,
the "DONTNOD Entertainment", and its release had a troubled history
since the developer team has struggled to defend the main theme of his work.
Adrift, so the game was originally called, was set
in a post-apocalyptic world after the melting of glaciers,
where augmented reality was now a constant.
The population could implement a genuine trade of the memories
and feelings of the people were controlled by an external surveillance company,
laundered them and supplied them to ensure peace and serenity.
Initially for this project, the DONTNOD team had partnered with Sony
but in 2011 due to some divergences, the team decided to terminate the contract,
and then being published by Capcom that, according to the developers,
has reworked the central theme of the game and changed the title to Remember Me
We leave you now to our video review.
For Player by Gamers, Bye!
Remember Me is an action game / third-person adventure set
in the futuristic world of Neo-Paris in 2084,
where a private company, Memorize, has developed
a new technology called Sensen which is a device
that can allow all the population to upload and share your memories
in the network, as well as remove unhappy or unpleasant memories
and relive the exciting ones.
Memorize has established a monopoly in this way,
leading to the creation of a real market of memories.
Reliance on this device, however, has devastating side effects
and has led to a social division between rich people
who can afford medical treatment and poor people who are damaged
by their own technology, and they are regressed to form a sub-human
taking refuge in the sewers of the city.
The world of Remeber Me goes back to Cyberpunk dealing with issues
such as the ethics of scientific experimentation, the relationship
with the suffering and the loss of loved ones, memory manipulation and social division.
In the game we will play Nilin, a slayer of memories that is part
of a group of rebels called "Errorist" that use Sensen technology
to their advantage with the goal of destroying Memorize.
Our heroine was imprisoned in the Bastille, which has become
a technological and maximum security prison,
where the prisoners are subjected to frequent memory reset up
to serve the sentence that will include a total reset.
Thanks to a mysterious man, called "Edge", Nilin will be able
to escape from the prison and be united again to the cause of Errorist
in an attempt to destroy Memorize and recover his memories.
The most promising feature of Remember Me is based on
the fact that much of the experience is achieved thanks
to a ludic narrative component making this excellent title almost an interactive movie.
The gameplay is varied: it is not only jumping and martial arts
in a close combat, but it contains a mix of exploration, platform
and stealth flanked by several environmental puzzles.
In Remember Me we will have the ability to customize our combo
via an editor that allows you to create custom sequences of moves
and will face enemies with a tactical and reasoned approach to combat similar
to Rocksteady's Batman games in which the developers are deliberately inspired by.
This type of combat creates spectacular and elegant sequences
and the addition of special moves brings tactical depth to combat.
In fact, it should choose to use the special move at the appropriate time,
such as activate berserker mode in the presence of many enemies
or subject to our control enemy-robots to unleash against the enemies.
In addition, the amnesia of the character is treated with care,
following the narrative, introducing at the right time important pieces
of the story and unlock new special abilities over time by experience
in this way the progress of the level and growth of our character.
All the moves and techniques learned during
the game should be used to best to deal with bosses
who have a significant level of challenge, although often
useful strategy is revealed by messages of suggestion that appear
during clashes after a certain period of time .
In conclusion, Remember Me provides a varied and fluid gaming experience
capable of keeping pasted the player to the monitor for
the whole duration of the history, thanks to a guessed level design
and a cool combat system.
The controls, however, have some flaws and
would have needed further refinement and sometimes in the sequences,
the chaos during the combat goes against the need to have always clear
what is happening on the screen, maybe because of the porting
since we are talking about the PC version.
The camera is sometimes inaccurate and perhaps
it would have been better to have more type of combo.
But it is the memory remix during
the gameplay that gives an added value to the title:
Nilin is a memory hunter and her peculiarity is that
she can get into the head of the victim to be able to remix, or modify at will a memory.
There will be shown an interactive sequence
that we can analyze and send back and forward as if it was a movie.
Our task will be to find the details to be manipulated
to change the outcome of the recall.
In this way, it might even change the relationship
that person has towards us, or this could serve
the holder of memories to re-evaluate his past choices for future decisions.
The graphic are very well made and based on the Real Engine,
it is noted for defined texture, and for its breathtaking views
over the city of Paris where the horizon stand out
the most famous monuments accompanied by the most extravagant futuristic structures.
But to pierce the screen is the soundtrack,
a truly remarkable visionary masterpiece
that mixes elements of electronic music with more traditional arrangements.
Excellent also the Italian dubbing even if the audio is not
always synchronized perfectly with the sores.
Remember Me is a classic example of "Sleeper Hit" a title that,
despite the initial problems, has managed to involve
the player for its fresh gameplay, an engaging storyline
and a sophisticated style that does not go unnoticed,
combined with a spectacular soundtrack.
The independent titles are sometimes seen only as works
that put a strain on the creativity of the developers
who defy their own publishing house to stay unchanged their idea.
It's important to remember, however, that this fight can go out
titles of excellent quality and DONTNOD team in this case,
with their "Remember Me", are a team not to be forgotten.
