My name is Lee Anderson.
I am the manager of this lovely pub,
the Jamaica Wine House.
This pub's been here since 1652,
and this was the actual
first coffee house in London.
And as we are in the City of London,
which was the historical
and modern financial district,
coffee houses were established quite
quickly as the main meeting point
for business meetings
and stock exchanges.
This pub is special
because it's lots of dark wood
and dark flooring and red ceilings,
and it's partitioned off into sort of
lots of little private sections.
And it just makes the pub
feel really cosy, you know.
We do good beer
and it's a nice venue.
So the Jamaican Wine House
is tucked down a sort of complex mix
of alleyways and courtyards off St
Michael's Alley down George's Yard.
You would never know it was here
unless you stumbled across it,
but once you find it,
you realise you've found a gem.
It's in the middle of the city,
and although it is in the middle
of all the hustle and bustle,
everyone that comes in here feels
as though they've been here before
and it just makes it really welcoming
and really inviting.
As it's an old building, you know,
I think it comes with the territory
that you're gonna always have
a few ghosts, and we have three,
Jennifer, Tattymatty and the pub dog.
Jennifer is very, very friendly.
She likes to be part
of the bustle of the pub.
Tattymatty's quite shy and reserved.
And the pub dog, apparently,
is quite overfriendly.
I love to spend my time in pubs.
I'm a real pub girl.
I'm London born and bred and I love
the fact when you go into a pub,
it really represents
the area of London you're in.
I love the old-fashioned
London ***.
For me, that's all part of it.
You've got everything
you could possibly ever want to do.
When it comes to pubs,
you know, London does it best.
