MyCR has two gradebook tools: Gradebook and Gradebook 2. The interfaces for each of these
differs, but the purpose is the same: to allow instructors to calculate, store, and share
your grades with you online.
This video overview will briefly cover each of these because some instructors will use
one or the other.
If your class is using the Gradebook tool, you’ll find a Gradebook link in the COURSE
TOOLS menu.
If your class is using the Gradebook 2 tool, you’ll find a Gradebook 2 link in the COURSE
TOOLS menu.
This class contains both versions for demonstration purposes, but it’s likely your classes will
only have one.
To access the Gradebook tool, click on the Gradebook link.
The Gradebook displays the titles, due dates, grades, item weights, instructor comments,
and source of the gradebook item. In this example, there are items from the Assignments
tool, Discussions tool, and Tests & Quizzes tool. If your instructor splits the gradebook
into categories, you will see the category titles in bold.
A couple things to note. If an item appear in parentheses, that indicates that the item
is not included in the course grade calculation. Also, not all of the Gradebook comments are
linked to the comments an instructor can give you from within the corresponding tool. For
example, comments added into the Discussion Forums tool won’t show up in the Gradebook
comments. So, you may want to also check the graded item’s tool for more information.
To be sure, you can always check with your instructor to see where they prefer to leave
comments.
Next, we can access the Gradebook 2 tool by clicking on the Gradebook 2 link.
Although the interface looks different, the information is the same. Each item contains
a title, weight, grade, and due date. To access comments for a specific item, just click on
the title of the item and the comment will display to the right. If an instructor splits
the gradebook into categories, you will see the category titles in bold.
