>> DEE SCHLOTTER: We worked a lot with Heartland Homes whenever they came to us and asked us
to spec out the paints for their homes. We wanted to be sure that they were ecologically
sound for their customers. PPG has always been a great product steward. We’ve been
in business for over a hundred years, and we've always provided great product stewardship
for all our products.
Ecological means low VOCs or zero VOCs. VOCs are volatile organic compounds that are released
when you're painting. So when you're painting there's some things that come off the paint
in order for it to try and for it to set up on the wall and those are called VOCs.
In our paint that’s used on all Heartland Homes, the SpeedHide Paint is all low, very
very low VOCs, below the national standard. So it's always been important for us to have
“green” paint. The paints that are used at Frank Lloyd Wright's falling water, which
is an hour east of here (Pittsburgh), are our zero VOC pans and low VOC paints. We carry
that message with us especially to you a customer like Heartland Homes because we want to make
sure that their customers get the best ecological paints we have. Our pains that are low VOC
and zero VOC have exactly the premium qualities as paints that have higher VOC, you get the
quality and you get the environmental aspects.

When you're choosing colors for your space and for your new home, we always recommend
choosing your paint color last and the reason for that is because everything else is limited
as far as color options. So your carpet, your furniture, your artwork, your bedding, all
of those things are limited whenever you think about it.
So you never want to go and pick your paint color or your wall color first and then say,
“Oh boy I can't find the right bedding to go with this wall color.” And that happens
a lot. So you pick everything else for some window treatments, to carpet, to hardwood
floor, to your furniture, to your bedding; everything else first and then you walk into
the room and then you find your paint color. That way you can make sure it all works together
beautifully!
