JOEL SIEGEL: All right. So we're going to move along with our eighth notes here and
the kick drum. We've got--this time, we're going to do the downbeat of one, the downbeat
of four and the upbeat of four, okay? So again, musically, hopefully you'll kinda get an idea
of what that's gonna--what that means and what that will kinda sound like. You have
that kind of open space between one and four. There's a lot of space there in which is just
the backbeat kinda doing the talking on beat two. And on beat three, it's just the hi-hat,
right? So there's a lot of space there. And in the 4 and 1, that's going to give you that
kind of drive, like to build into just like that downbeat. So you're really emphasizing
the downbeat in this beat and then there's kind of an open air type thing going on in
the middle of the measure. This is what it sounds like. I'll just do the kick and the
snare. This is what it looks like. All right? So take a look at this next clip. I'll play
it for a little longer with the hi-hat incorporated, and then we'll go ahead and play it together.
