What's up, gamers? This is 16Bit Hero, and I'm here today to talk about the games that marked my childhood and maybe so did with yours!
This time I'm gonna talk about a game based of a Marvel's comic saga, The Infinite Gems saga!
Where the one who gets the Gems' power will become the most powerful being in the Universe and will be able to dominate it on his own!
The game is called Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems and was released in 1995 published by Capcom!
So... Can we expect another gem from the super nintendo? With no further delay, let's find out!
Well, since the game is based of a comic, guess what? It has no story! No offense, but let's be honest, the story of comics is just...
"Oh, here comes a enemy stupidly strong, let's beat him and..."
End of the Story!
But this one, among other comic sagas that I've read, I kinda like better that's because it's about a treasure that they must protect
The Infinite gems, and not just defeat their enemies and that's it!
Anyway, the Gems, for some strange reason, fell on earth, and Adam Warlock gathers the greatest heroes from Marvel universe to look for them!
Along the way they'll encounter Magus, a supervillian who wants to get the Gems, to dominate the Universe, and...
They beat him and keep looking for the Gems... then another villian appears, Thanos... and, well, you know how this goes.
Then, when they gather all infinite gems, Adam Warlock guards them to protect them from anyone who would use their power to conquer the universe
Ironically he becomes... No... you know what, forget it, I won't spoil the whole thing!
the story is different from the original, they changed some things to make it a little more lineal
But i like that Protecting-an-universal-treasure thing, so... it's good!
The game consists in traveling to different parts of the world to look for the infinite gems
First there's the Amazonas, a submarine aquarium in Boston, Alaska and Dr. Doom's Castle
At the end of every level you'll find a boss, and when you beat him you might get, or not one of the gems!
When you finish the 4 stages you fight Magus who posseses 1 of the gems, the power gem
and Thanos appears warning about taking the gems for himself to conquer the universe, and all that sh*t!
Moving on, we'll select once again 4 stages, this time there's Egipt, Mt. Vesuvius, a mining complex in Arizona and an Asteroid belt
It's not on Earth, but at least it's in the map, right?
In the end, when you get the 5 gems you'll fight Thanos, but first you gotta beat a bold chick with half the terminator's face, called Nebula
Nothing difficult
And at last the final battle against Thanos, the only character in the game that can guard himself, I don't know why noone else can't!
There's also the Avengers' Base where you can practice battles against the bosses of the game, and if you win without getting hurt you get an item!
And you also get the password for your progress in the game!
When you'll enter a stage you get the option to select between the 5 heroes Captain America, Spiderman, IronMan, the Incredible Hulk and Wolverine!
And then you can equip them with other stuff, there are these tanks that recover your health, the little ones recover half your life bar
and the big ones recover all of it, there're these gems that allow you to do a special move
but it's too complicated and I've never got it to work, so...
And these revivers, that's right! there are no extra lives, if you lose a character, it's f*cking dead! and you gotta revive it...
If you don't, and everybody dies, the game's over!
You can also equip your characters with 5 of the 6 infinite gems, the time gem allows you to go faster
the reality gem reveals hidden items in the stages, the power gem, well, gives you twice the power (Nintendo Power!)
The Space gem allows you to jump higher, and the soul gem gives you twice your health
in the stages there are also these yellow tanks that recover some of your health, but not as much as the blue ones!
Each character has his own moveset, even thou it's just basically punch to the death, there are also special moves!
Like IronMan's beams, the Captain America Throwing-shield, Spiderman's web, Wolverine's Shoryuken, and... Hulk, with his super headbutt
Which is fun, 'cause you can use it unlimitedly with no fear to waste it or something!
The design for the stages it's really splendid, and even it it's too lineal there are some levels where you gotta decide which way to take
This means, if you go with the correct characters, spiderman, wolverine and IronMan can reach the higher places
While Captain America and Hulk are limited to the lower places which are generally harder!
The music sounds like a comic, you follow me? like if the characters and the enviroments come alive, it's awesome!
And the Sound effects are more or less good, nothing to get excited about, and... yeah, that's about it!
The enemies in this game are way... way to limited! Even some bosses are the same enemies, just painted slightly different! But...
Well, it's not the game's fault, this deal comes from the comic, 'cause the characters there fought evil versions of themselves, so, it's acceptable
But even then, they could've added more enemies, 'cause if we count them, there are: Daredevil, Wolverine, IronMan, the Amazons, these flying dudes
Hawkeye, the Ninja Turtles, these robots, Silver Surfer The Thing and Hulk!
The bosses and mini-bosses are practically the same thing, except for the Amazons, why?
The only bosses that are certainly unique are the Sasquatch, Dr Doom, who you fight twice, and Black Heart, which is my favourite boss!
Hard as Sh*t!
The controls are really standart, you move normally with the arrows, attack with Y and jump with B
Ah... yes, another Nes controller and the special moves are done like in a fighting game
You know, down forward Y, forward down down-forward Y up two times and Y, or forward two times and Y... mmm YES!
Wolverine and Spiderman can climb walls and IronMan can jump twice but the bad thing is the gem attack, it's so awkward to pull of!
It's supposed to be back down forward and something but it never worked!
But it's ok, I accept it, the controls aren't that perfect, but they're fluid and respond well with punches, jumps and stuff!
But personally, the one that gives me more problems is Hulk, I mean, don't get me wrong, He's...
But the thing is that he's really slow and a big target for enemies' attacks, that's why I don't like playing with him
I prefer IronMan or Captain America!
The game has an awesome image, the colors are very radiant and well located in every possible spot!
The movement for every character is very well animated, and... well, just look at IronMan, he flashes and everything!
And they adapted really well this saga of the Infinite gems in a videogame, the only one based of that saga!
When I was a child I simply fell in love with this game the first time I played it, the presentation just blew my *** away with excitement!
This is another gem that will go down in history as one of Marvel's greatest games...
On the Snes!
To get a lot of items and the 5 gems, put this password!
And the only thing lasts is Mt Vesuvius for the end of the game...
And... there, I don't know any other good tricks so... it'll be next time!
Well, what can I say, the game has some awesome images and it's not limited to just 1 character...
But you got 5, B*tch! Don't complain about it!
You have the gems that makes you stronger and enhaces the game's experience and the stages are awesome!
The replay value is high for this game, and I can't wait to play it again!
Well, the game has a couple of cons, one of them is, like i said, the lack of enemies, I still think that they should've added more villians
Or evil versions of the heroes, at least so I wouldn't be so repetitive while fighting them!
And the gems special attack, if they'd put it in one of the buttons for its easy excecution it'd ease things, but Noooo!
It had to be with the *** D-PAD!
And nothing else! The game's not perfect but can be enjoyed a lot!
During my youth I didn't have the opportunity to read comics like nowadays, but when this game came to my life, it changed it!
The way I saw the world, expanding my imagination to exciting and extravagant journeys with the only goal to protect what is valued...
Not only for us, but for everybody!
An irreplaceable treasure that fullfiles anyone's heart with ambition, power, wisdom and conquest...
The Infinite Gems!
Thanks to Jim Starlin for creating such amazing saga of the Earth's greatest heroes and to this game, for all its amazing stuff I'll give it...
Eight revivers out of Ten!
